Aircraft delivery delays were brought to light as the trade portion of the Singapore airshow came to a close on Friday. Given the aviation industry’s booming recovery on an uptick in demand since the pandemic, airlines used the event to question what major manufacturers Boeing Co (NYSE:BA, ETR:BCO) and Airbus Group (EPA:AIR) were doing to address delivery delays. “Dozens and dozens” of engineers are being sent to directly assess supply chain bottlenecks, according to Airbus. Airlines such as Lufthansa said spare parts were being stocked to mitigate lengthy wait times for orders, which Philippine budget airline Cebu Pacific warned could include 9-month delays next year. Boeing faced a separate bout of scrutiny over an incident in which a door panel fell off one of its narrow-body 737 Max 9 jets mid-flight last month. However, commentators said the US-based airline responded well to the challenge,... More at #Proactive #ProactiveInvestors http://ow.ly/u4KL105jvsp

On an aircraft count basis, 2.33% of the global commercial passenger Narrowbody and Widebody fleet are currently operated by African carriers. Africa’s share by Market Value is slightly lower, at 2.23%. While this proportion split has remained relatively stable over the past few years, hovering just above the 2% mark, the split by Market Value has tended to underperform the split by fleet count slightly. Back in 2016, Boeing extended a game-changing offer to Pakistan International Airlines (PIA): the chance to upgrade their fleet by replacing 5 Boeing 777-300ERs with state-of-the-art Boeing 787 Dreamliners. This move wasn’t just about swapping planes; it was about ushering in a new era of efficiency and innovation in the airline industry. Boeing didn’t stop there. They sweetened the deal by offering full support to PIA in transitioning to this new type of airliner. Imagine the possibilities: enhanced passenger comfort, reduced fuel consumption, and lower operating costs, all while soaring towards a greener future. However, the plot thickens. Despite the promise of brighter skies ahead, there was silence from PIA’s end. What could be the reason behind PIA’s hesitation? 💭 Was it a matter of finances, strategic planning, or perhaps exploring alternatives? What factors do you think PIA should consider when evaluating such game-changing opportunities? #aviationdaily #boeing

Turkish Cargo plans to expand freighter fleet in next 5-10 yrs Turkish Airlines has plans to expand its freighter fleet in the next five-10 years. At the ongoing TIACA Executive Summit hosted by Brussels Airport, Turkish Airlines Chief Cargo Officer Turhan Özen said the carrier is planning to expand its freighter fleet and so is also planning to expand its passenger aircraft. The carrier is hoping to expand its current overall fleet from around 429 currently to more than 800 in 10 years’ time. On freighters, Özen said over the next “five years plus” the freighter fleet would expand from its current 24 to 40 aircraft. Turkish Airlines has been working on an order for 400 narrowbodies and 200 wide-body aircraft. The airline had initially hoped to finalise that deal this summer, but completion has been complicated by challenges securing delivery slots at Airbus and Boeing and current engine supply issues, reports FlightGlobal. source cargotalkgcc.com

The year is 1965 and Lufthansa German Airlines becomes the first European operator of Boeing's legendary trijet, the 727. In this photograph, taken at Palma de Mallorca Airport in the Balearic Islands archipelago, a new 727-30, "D-ABIL," is seen parked on a hard-stand between flights in early September of that year. Marketed as "Europa Jets," these very early birds wore this short-lived mid-1960's livery (which, in my opinion, was quite attractive). Notice the lack of both exit and emergency exit window outlines that would soon be mandatory on all airliners in Europe and the United States. Later the West-German flag carrier would also operate a sizable fleet of stretched 727-230's, flying them into the mid-1990's. Interested in legendary Pan Am? Cathay Pacific leaning towards Airbus for future freighter order As Cathay Pacific closes in on a decision regarding its future freighter requirements, sources close to the decision-making process have disclosed that the Airbus A350 freighter is the frontrunner for any new order to be placed by the carrier. The Hong Kong-based company is widely expected to order six A350 freighters as replacements for a similar number of its older Boeing 747 cargo aircraft that are earmarked to leave the fleet in the coming years. Industry insiders have told Reuters that the competition involves an initial purchase of around half a dozen new aircraft worth $2 billion at list prices before traditional airline discounts are negotiated and applied. China has invested heavily in its attempt to break the hold of the dominant two Western plane makers on the global passenger market. With #airbus and #boeing struggling to ramp up production and meet demand for new planes, and Boeing struggling with a string of crises, the #aviation industry is watching how COMAC positions itself as a viable alternative.

COMAC C919 had a strong presence at the recent Singapore Airshow. I was quoted in the article about the C919 entry into narrow body competition that is currently dominated by Airbus and Boeing. Right now, the C919 is at a very low production volume and is not certified by airworthiness organizations outside of China. Both these issues of low production and limited certification will in the near and mid term prevent scaling international operations, however and as I have said in the past, "It's not if, but when COMAC will mature this aircraft to then compete for a larger market share with Airbus and Boeing." This is not a near term term competition and might take more than a decade or two, but long term this aircraft or its derivatives will change the duopoly to a oligopoly.... #aerospace #airlines #thefactorydoctor https://lnkd.in/g77E4wH8
