We’ve got great news: last night at the #TippingPointBenefit, our community came together to raise $14.5 million to build a stronger #BayArea! Each dollar our donors give goes directly to fight poverty. In the words of CEO Sam Cobbs, "We have faith that we can—and we will—build a Bay Area where everyone can prosper." ⭐️ Grantee Leader Spotlight: Dontae Lartigue, CEO and co-founder of Razing The Bar, uses his lived experience to help #BayArea foster youth transform their lives. Foster youth who "age out" of the system face unique challenges to housing security and are often overlooked for supportive services. Dontae founded Razing the Bar to provide housing support, connections to services, and meaningful relationships to help them get a fresh start. Tipping Point supports Razing the Bar through our #YouthHomelessness initiative. As fire season approaches, we're highlighting the incredible wildland firefighters keeping our communities safe. Ben Fowler, a graduate of Tipping Point grantee The Forestry and Fire Recruitment Program’s first #BayArea cohort, shares his journey from incarceration, where he first started fighting fires as a part of fire camp, to finding his purpose and career as a firefighter. Hear his story, from being a fresh FFRP graduate speaking at the 2023 #TippingPointBenefit to now, a seasoned firefighter working on the grounds of the Mendocino National Forest. Congratulations Opportunity Junction on the launch of a new medical assistant training program! 👏 When Brianna Robinson, CEO + President of OJ, spoke at our 2023 Breakfast, their nursing assistant program was gaining state recognition as a model of success. Now, using learnings from the CNA program and capacity building support from Tipping Point, OJ launched a new medical assistant training that provides comprehensive support for #BayArea residents to get on the path to a career in healthcare. https://lnkd.in/gjAAf6ze

Does a college degree help prevent poverty? The research says yes. Our report on #BayArea poverty, drawing on data from Public Policy Institute of California, shows that residents without a college degree are nearly 5x more likely to be in or near poverty. While for some, joining the workforce is the only option, a college degree continues to be a key driver for economic mobility for the majority of households. Last year, Tipping Point invested $5 million to support grantees empowering more first-generation, low-income students on a path to #HigherEd.
