Are the tools of journalism applicable to #corporate communications? Without a doubt. I recently had the opportunity to discuss three of those tools, and how to apply them, at a gathering of comms professionals from Method Communications, Sling & Stone and other teams from our VCCP family. I’d love to hear about other skills from #journalism you think are applicable to helping companies tell their best stories in authentic, media-genic ways. Comment below!
My time in journalism and then in corporate communications taught me: the truth will come out, get ahead of “the story,” listen first and well, help leaders be people, and anticipate and plan for every contingency…among other lessons.
The success of our marketing and PR agency hinges on using journalistic skills and understanding news media along with continuous learning to stay abreast of emerging media opportunities.
Hear, hear, Tim Race. The results show over and over again that the most effective communications professionals almost always have a hard-core journalism background.
Well done, Tim. Really interesting and thought-provoking presentation.
Being inquisitive and asking questions can uncover potential issues and deepens business understanding to be of more value across the board. Applying a journalistic approach to corporate work can help the person and the business.
Couldn’t agree more!! Love learning from you.
This is a great—meaning Tim, your session was great. And I should have noted that having Tim Race as your editor early on in tech journalism spurred excellence!
Such a great presentation, Tim! Your expertise, humor, and charm were on full display :) Proud to work with you
