Manufacturing leaders very commonly want to include their teams in discussing adopting continuous improvement. I applaud those who sincerely want to keep the team engaged and empower them. However, most things in excess can be detrimental; we often see this sentiment taken to the extreme. In those cases, the team pushes back because they resist change or for many other reasons, and it is at this time the leader must decide: “Do I accept my team’s recommendations? Or do I persist because I know it’s the right thing to do? Here is a principle to live by: "Buy-in to improvement should never be optional. Period." A business that’s not improving and growing is a business that’s falling behind.
