Too many golden nuggets to list from Dr. Marcus Collins talk at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity yesterday… But here are some: 💥“Cultural production drives consumption”💥 💥“We consume brands based on the meaning we give them not the meaning they give themselves”💥 💥”Brands signal intent but people decide their relevance”💥 💥“A brand is consumed not because of what it is but because of who we are”💥 💥“Meaning is not fixed. It’s negotiated and constructed.”💥 🎤 ⬇️ Marcus talked about many of these principles being obvious but his incredible reframing made me feel oblivious to them until this talk. Kudos and thank you to Marcus and to Netflix for such a brilliant breakfast session. Inspiring, informative and impressive. CMOs - hire this man for his services. Everyone - buy this man’s book.
