Black Week is closing up! Here are 5 things we learned, when we swapped our desks for the warehouse floor 👉 As “office-based” professionals, taking extreme ownership of initiatives throughout the entire process is extremely important, as it creates a better and integrated workflow. ⚙ Data Utilization – End-to-End: Suddenly, we saw with our own eyes how our Product Data online are set out in the physical pick&pack lists. These insights made us do a Data clean-up and add more valuable product attributes to the picking lists for a faster identification of the product specification. 💡 Relevant up-selling: When packing orders, it becomes clear what type of products each customer adds to their basket. We clearly have some work to do on enhancing the user experience by providing highly relevant and specific up-sell products across all product types. The cheapest brush is not always the one helping you to apply your paint more beautifully or faster. 🏬 Benefit from a large retail network: This year, our Black Week campaign is active online and in all of our physical stores. We have seen significant benefits and synergies of using our large store network to serve our customers better and faster. In fact, this year we have seen up to 40% Click & Collect orders from customers ordering online and collecting their order in one of our stores. We are extremely proud of this number, as it shows that we are unifying online and physical retail into one customer experience. 🤝 Enhanced Team Spirit: Collaborating closely with our warehouse colleagues towards a common goal fostered a stronger sense of unity. The shared experience of working towards a collective objective during Black Week highlighted the importance of effective teamwork. Bringing more focus on these parts makes our teamwork more effective in our day to day operations going forward from here. 🔄 A campaign is not static: During Black Week we monitored, changed and optimized strategies individually suited for Denmark, Sweden, and Norway to increase our online performance. Last week, I had the privilege of co-hosting the Intuit Platinum Club event, where we recognized and celebrated the exceptional achievements of our top performers in the sales organization as well as people who support sales. It’s a moment to pause and reflect on the remarkable accomplishments that collectively drive our organization forward. Going even further, the Platinum Club serves as a platform for our team to connect on a deeper level. In the hustle and bustle of the daily grind, it’s easy to forget that we are more than colleagues; we are a community. These events allow us to strengthen our bonds, share stories, and build lasting relationships. When we come together outside of the office, we have the opportunity to learn from each other’s journeys, gather insights, and inspire one another. Long story short: Black Unicorn PR is celebrating its 6th birthday… so HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US! 🦄🎈🎂 Let’s talk about what we’ve done in these years and what are the key lessons I’ve learnt as a business owner… So, let's dive in! 🏊♀️ Nah, I lie. It won’t be *that* educational, motivational post, which will change your life (do they ever though?) 😉🧟♀️ There will be no blowing our own trumpet (our work speaks for itself) or sharing secrets on how to run a business (heck, every day I learn something new), or sharing painful failures (of which there are many!), or talking about the importance of rest and recharge (obviously, health always comes first) 🧘🏻♀️🫖🍪 Every business - no matter how big or small - comes with a set of challenges. No surprise there. But today, I want to highlight the STRENGTH, RESILIENCE, and ADAPTABILITY that have been key to navigating these rollercoaster challenges. Not every day is a walk in the park. Sometimes it is a walk through Zombieland and you are just trying to make it to the other side in one piece. 🎢🧟☕ There are mornings when the thought of work doesn’t exactly make me jump out of bed with enthusiasm. And yes, there are bad days - days when everything seems to go wrong. BUT what makes it all worthwhile are the people: our incredible CLIENTS who bring us exciting, diverse projects. I am very proud that we get to choose and work with some of the coolest European founders 🔥 Of course, our dedicated team of ‘corns whose dedication and crazy ideas turn challenges into successes. I say it every single time I have a chance that there would be NO Black Unicorn PR without the people behind it. No people - no agency 🦄 And our partners who join us in the journey, adding value at every step. It's the human connections, the shared struggles, and triumphs that make this rollercoaster of a  journey so enriching 🎈 So, as we celebrate 6 years of Black Unicorn PR, it's not just about what we've achieved, but about who we've met and worked with along the way. In just one year’s time, we had a complete staff turnover. 🤯 It was brutal. 🥵 I learned a lot in that time, and the main thing was this: never compromise your values. 💯 You can find many skilled individuals in the world but that doesn’t make them the right person for your organization. ❌ 📝📥📓Despite knowing the HR rules, employment and labor laws, and best practices for hiring and retention, we did not get our culture right until I got clear about my personal values: innovation, candor, growth, volunteerism, independence. 🚀🙏🏼🤨 From there, I was able to finally articulate how I show my values in my work, and thus, how they show up in our organization if I am leading from my authentic place: 1. We challenge the status quo. 2. We are lovingly candid. 3. We value intentional growth. 4. We give back. 5. We believe in freedom. Our next step is to refine these further as an aligned group who agrees with these basic tenets. We will start by considering the specific examples of how they show up in our day to day lives and specifically identifying the people within our community (team, clients, vendors, referral partners) who demonstrate each of them. Start small. Start with you. 🙋 What do you value? How does that show up in your work? Do you see similarities with the people closest to you in life? 🤔 Does your team share these tenets or are you constantly wondering where their motivation comes from and why they don’t enthusiastically show to win every day? 🙃

As 2023 draws to a close, I'm reflecting on Black Airplane's journey, not just in terms of growth or numbers, but in the real, tangible strides we've made. This year brought a moment that truly encapsulates our success. I stumbled upon a recording from a client meeting – a project I didn't even know about, with a team I had no involvement with with one of our largest customers. The client's words were beyond praise; they were an ecstatic endorsement of our team's innovation, autonomy, skill, and the sheer joy they bring to their work. To me, this represents the pinnacle of success: a self-organizing team that consistently exceeds expectations, independently creating exceptional value for our clients. The evolution of my role at Black Airplane has been a journey of trust and letting go. Years ago, I stepped back from being hands-on in every project. More recently, the shift has been even more profound – stepping back from direct involvement with each individual in our growing team. Entrusting this incredible group of people, watching our new leaders emerge and thrive, has been both challenging and immensely fulfilling. They are not just carrying forward our vision; they are elevating it with their own brilliance. This year, we also celebrated over 20% growth in revenue – a significant achievement in a challenging year. This growth is a silent nod to the quality of our work and the caliber of our sales team. We're mindful that this success comes in a year filled with challenges for many, and we don't take that lightly. As we gear up for the next two years, our goal is to not just grow, but to build a stable, dynamic environment where innovation thrives. This year has been about laying the groundwork for that future. To every team member, our clients, and partners, I extend my deepest gratitude. A special thank you to my wife, Katy, for her unwavering support and to my business partner, Michael Caldwell, for being pillars of strength and trust. #happyfriday everyone! This week Insperity held our annual conference. It is a time of learning, collaborating and celebrating: personal, team, region and company achievements. Being 18 months into my role, this was my second conference and my first time receiving recognition. At Insperity, we are compensated for the number of employees we sign on and manage in our book of business. This award, recognizes in my first full year I added at least 100 employees to my book of business. Perspective is a powerful thing. I am grateful for the award. This milestone did not come close to achieving my personal goals. By contrast, the top rep in the company added just over 600 in 2023 ( she is something special as she manages somewhere over 6,000 employees in her cumulative book of business spanning a 20+ years career). Where I am, versus where I am going. Learned several key things this week. Timing is everything right? I just bought a book called "The Obstacle Is The Way" by Ryan Holiday. I listened to it three times in the last week. In short, the biggest problems we face in life do NOT define us, instead they are an opportunity to leverage greatness. Our leadership focused on the value of "one more." They told us that, if each Business Performance Advisor can manage just one more discovery call with a potential client each month in 2024, we will achieve our company goals for 2024 with flying colors. Just one more. Simple right? Simple & powerful. I will finish this post by publicly thanking all the people that helped me achieve this goal.
