*Delight your writers by speaking their language* It can make such a difference to know that the person you are talking to, speaks your language. You can use 3 simple ways to identify their language: * Ask them through a survey. * Monitor their social media. * Attend their writers' conference & read their articles. Thanks to my client Suzette Mullen, LGBTQ Book Coach, Memoir who inspired this article by teaching me the 'real' meaning of the word "micro-aggressions". #anlytampere #writingcoach #pricingstrategy --- My name is An and I help writing coaches get more clients. 🌈We're a few weeks away from Pride month, so this is my yearly reminder that YOU are enough. I meet so many bisexual, pansexual, gender-questioning, and other kinds of people throughout the year who tell me that they are never sure if they are "allowed" to attend Pride because they aren't sure if they are "queer enough." There is no such thing. Your identity is valid. Your feelings are valid. You owe no one an explanation, especially anyone who would ever make assumptions about whether or not you "belong" at Pride. You do belong. Of course, it's important to be respectful of target audiences for events and to be mindful of how much space you take up in discussions when there are more marginalized people in the room. Transgender people, LGBQTIA+ immigrants, disabled people, and people of colour aren't always centered in the way they should be in some spaces, and this sometimes results in their struggles and issues being overlooked. Let's make space for everyone who needs it.

If you truly want to make a difference, If you truly care, You have to get uncomfortable. The easy part is posting about things on social media The easy part is talking about social evils. The easy part is wearing a pin on your clothes. The tough part, the part that actually makes a difference, Is taking a stand. Even when it's confronting your closest circle. Even when it's talking to your boss. Even when it will cost you. Even when you’re uncomfortable. Yes, even when it will physically or mentally affect you. Whether you’re fighting for queer rights, for trans rights, against racism, or casteism… Be comfortable being uncomfortable. Be comfortable being that annoying person who is always talking ‘politics’ Be comfortable being that person who is constantly talking about discrimination. Be comfortable being that difficult person. You can make a difference in the communities that you care about by refusing to remain silent. When I speak to allies of the queer and transgender community, the question I hear most often is, how can I support you? Speaking up is my first answer. I say this one first because it is the most outward and visible. With anti-trans laws across the U.S., it is important that allies speak up and show out in droves to combat these. It is often safer for an ally to speak up than it is for a transgender person, and sometimes it is more effective. Listen to the trans community. Share our stories (with permission if they aren't already public). And contribute to the fight for trans rights. #TransRightsAreHumanRights #Allyship

Great tips.

The Trans community are not "others", they are Us. They are our family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors. They deserve to live lives that are free from fear and hatred and yet every day, they wake up to a barrage of hatred directed at them. As allies, we must take action to support our Trans and Non-Binary community. To be a better ally, here are some tips I've learned as a parent, friend and ally: 1. Challenge anti-transgender remarks or jokes. 2. Learn that transgender people have existed across cultures and throughout history. 3. Respect the terminology a transgender person uses to describe their identity. 4. Pronouns matter! Respect and use the pronoun chosen by the individual. 5. You cannot tell if someone is transgender just by looking. Create as inclusive an environment as possible. Let's show our support for the Trans community today, on #TDoV. We can learn so much from this beautiful community about strength, love, and optimism. Remember, #transgenderdayofvisibility #transisbeautiful #protecttranskids #mambear #lovewins.

In celebration of Pride 2024, we are recommending five must-reads every day this week! If you are interested in showing support for the community within your workplace, contact me for details about the training workshops available. #hrconsultancy #hr #humanresources #EDI
In celebration of Pride this month, we are delighted to introduce five must-read books to activate your Allyship! Immerse yourself in the LGBTQ+ culture, history and community this Pride. Day One : Giovanni’s Room by James Baldwin. An amazing gay black pioneer in the world of literature, Baldwin’s novel is one of the first records of queer POC experiences in American literature. It explores Paris in the 1950s, with an American unable to repress his impulses despite his determination to live the conventional life he envisions for himself. After meeting and proposing to a young woman, he finds himself falling for an Italian bartender and is tortured by his two identities. Have you read this book, or do you have any other recommendations? Let us know in the comments! #HR #HRconsultancy #Pride2024 #EDI #humanresources

Representation matters - particularly when such mistrust, vitriol and violence rages against transgender people. I'm grateful for powerful, highly-connected trans leaders like Laverne Cox and Marsha P. Johnson, who demonstrate the need for strong and empathetic voices in the 1960s and today. As Transgender Day of Visibility approaches, it's a wonderful time to stand together. What can allies do? 💗💙🤍 ✔️ Create inclusive professional spaces! Avoid assuming you know someone's pronouns, and use inclusive language ("Hey everybody!" vs. "Hey guys!") ✔️ Support trans creators - artists, authors, designers ✔️ Advocate for increased access and inclusive spaces - all-gender bathrooms, books and shows that represent kids of all genders, and races and ages for that matter. ✔️Ask your local library to point you towards books featuring trans characters! A local favorite is It Feels Good to Be Yourself by Teresa Thorne 💓 ✔️ Vocally oppose bills banning gender-affirming care, girls and women participating in team sports and drag shows ✔️ Listen to and amplify trans voices 🔗 below! ✔️ Keep an open mind. If any of this sounds intense to you, please consider what a difference it can make to someone you love, who may not know how to tell you. You can choose to be anything - be kind ✨️ https://lnkd.in/ea95pF7D
Building a culture of belonging where diversity, authenticity, & allyship is celebrated as a key enabler to growth.
Sunday, March 31st is International Transgender Day of Visibility. It’s a day to celebrate and honor the many contributions of trans and non-binary people worldwide. It’s also a time to recognize that anti-trans discrimination is at an all time high. If you’re curious about out why? HRC.org has very helpful educational information. The site also includes the type of anti-trans legislation being proposed and in many cases passed across various states. These are fear driven bills that with a bit more compassion and curiosity, might not seem necessary. If you’d like to expand your understanding of the transgender experience from one very special child’s perspective, check out DOTSON on Amazon or Target and share with others in your life!! Now in paperback with discussion questions included! Dotson: My Journey Growing Up Transgender https://a.co/d/c9RiNIh

The Policy Paradox of Queer Rights in India The recent Supreme Court judgement on the bouquet of queer rights, had led to a detailed discussion between a bunch of us public policy solution seekers. I have tried to summarize my learnings from this discussion, as well as create a framework of intervention around it to help us progressively achieve queer rights in India. This is not a perfect model of intervention. It is very much work in progress (for eg. the Y-axis on the Matrix has to be developed even more). The least I expect this to create, is an open conversation among a lot more of you. And if you can make more individual in your family, friends and colleague circles informed and aware; that too is a win. View the image to get a preliminary sense of how a scientific understanding, wider societal awareness, private business support and the legislative & the judicial leadership working in tandem, can all go a long way in achieving equitable rights for the queer community. For those who want to read the detailed docket prepared on the same (including questions which remain un-answered even after this intervention framework), ping me and I will share the copy with you separately. #QueerRights #LGBTIQRights #PublicPolicy #DiversityEquityInclusion (Chapter 61)
