It was World Youth Skills Day yesterday and I must take a moment to see how the landscape of career opportunities has evolved for the younger generation. The freedom to choose exciting paths, with content creation emerging as a standout choice is liberating. Interestingly, the recent move to bring OTT content creators under broadcasting regulations highlights the growing significance of this industry. It ensures a more structured and professional environment, opening up even more avenues for young creators to thrive. The future is bright for the youth as they continue to explore and innovate in the content creation and OTT space, making their mark in an ever-evolving digital world. Jumping straight into something personal today - my journey from the unpredictable world of live TV production to the strategic domain of product management 🎥 💻 You might be surprised to know that the skills I got while navigating live broadcast chaos - think equipment failures, reporter getting detained on air during Moscow protests, and breaking news on completely foreign topics - have been my secret weapon in tech 🚀 The transition might seem vast, but the core skills of adaptability, swift decision-making, and seamless collaboration have been incredibly transferable. Facing the unexpected daily in live TV prepared me for the dynamic challenges of developing tech products in ways I never imagined I'm curious - have any of you found unexpected value in skills from past experiences when moving into new roles? ♻️ #CareerJourneys #TransferableSkills

8 Lessons The Worst Moments in My Broadcasting Career Have Taught Me: - When someone makes a big mistake, don’t take your complaints to a personal level. - Whoever fails already feels bad enough. - Before a massive error, there were signals that you and the rest of the crew ignored. Write them down and look for ways to react faster in the future. - Shouting and cursing in moments of crisis won’t solve any of the problems. - 99% of the time, the origin of an error comes from bad communication. - Machines fail, even with the best engineer in your truck. - Learn from the bad moments, but don’t lose sleep blaming yourself again and again. - You will lose or earn respect from your peers depending on how you react during the worst days. Chase excellence, but remember that the road to get there is full of failures. - - - - - - Stuck because of your location or lack of contacts? TV Development Executive @ Dice Productions | Development Consultant | Broadcast Hotshot 2022 | Breakthrough Leader 2022 | BAFTA Member |
⭐ I was honoured and thankful to be named a Broadcast Hotshot in 2022. ⭐ However, this recognition was only made possible because the under-30 age limit was removed. Bravo Broadcast (MBI)! To be honest, I was shocked when Matt Campion told me he had nominated me! Actually, I couldn't hide my excitement 😂 It was a proud moment for me, especially as I had recovered from a serious illness the previous year, and almost left the industry entirely as a result. That’s why, I really encourage everyone to look beyond simply youth when they think about nominations. Many freelancers, like myself, come from working-class backgrounds and entered the industry as a second or third career—our contributions are just as valuable. I know, I know, *shock, horror*, but not everyone has the bank of Mum and Dad or a trust fund to rely on. And, *shock, horror*— that doesn't mean I hate anyone who does. But let's have a bit of radical honesty about the reality of working in TV, shall we? Many of us were simply fuelled by passion, positive vibes and a leap of faith! 😂 With the industry in disarray, it's a great time to celebrate our rising stars from all walks of life and across all sectors; it might even be the boost someone needs, just like it was for me. But that means valuing individuals' contributions based on *check notes* exactly that—their contributions—not based on arbitary metrics. There's room for everyone to shine brightly in this industry - both young and... wise 😉 . Let's back that up with actions. So get nominating folks! #BroadcastHotShots

Founder, fastest-growing streaming media network in the world, OTTRED | I hire for Streaming, Gaming and Music globally / توظيف المواهب العالمية في البث والوسائط الرقمية للشرق الأوسط
I am thrilled to announce the launch of the Broadcast Talent Manifesto, a global initiative aimed at creating a united front of broadcasting leaders. Together with the amazing Carrie Wootten, we are spearheading this movement to address the talent deficit that is emerging in the broadcasting industry. Rapid technological advancements in the last few years have drastically transformed the broadcasting sector, leaving us in need of new skills and fresh talent. One of our key findings is that the average age of an engineering resource in broadcasting falls between 47 to 55, highlighting the urgent need for a generational shift. The Broadcast Talent Manifesto seeks to tackle this challenge head-on by mobilizing initiatives that will attract and engage the next wave of talent. Our goal is to create an assembly of industry leaders, forming a "United Nations" of broadcasting, all working collaboratively to bridge the talent gap and shape the future of our industry. By embracing virtualization technologies and adapting to the demands of the evolving broadcasting landscape, we are confident in our ability to make the sector even more appealing to young professionals. Through compelling initiatives and strategic partnerships, we aim to inspire, educate, and empower the next generation to choose broadcasting as their career path. To join this groundbreaking endeavor contact Carrie or myself or register below to receive regular updates via email. We are actively seeking leaders to come together, share expertise, and build a compelling future for the broadcasting industry. Together, we can ensure a thriving talent pipeline that will drive innovation and keep us at the forefront of this ever-changing field. Stay tuned for updates and opportunities to get involved! #BroadcastTalentManifesto #UnitedForBroadcasting 🎥🌟

Great post Oscar Sanchez quite true! I would add: Experienced people know which "TV Rules" you need to follow and which you can (and should) break. This means more opportunity for innovation and imagination to break through. Disruption for disruption's sake isn't usually very interesting, BUT disruption in service to a creative vision while also grounded in knowledge of the craft is most certainly a path to great work and success. When creating "The Sopranos," David Chase notably banned the convention of using Walk and Talks (think of all those "West Wing" characters delivering lengthy Sorkin dialogue during walking scenes). These were heavily relied upon in hour-long dramas of that era to economize. Motion distracted viewers often became too engrossed in the dialogue, failing to pay attention to the sets or locations, which often were less than stellar. Chase, however, aimed for viewers to immerse themselves fully in the visual atmosphere of the places, thus bidding farewell to the frenzied budget friendly Walk and Talks. Chase also defied the TV rule that dictates characters must undergo redemptive moral journeys, a dictum that wouldn't align with a show centered on criminality. Thus, he revolutionized the industry when he birthed "The Sopranos," while creating one of TV's greatest shows. Old TV People indeed know how to create history!

3 simple steps to get over a big mistake in your job. 1. Own it. Leave excuses behind and recognize when you are the one responsible for what failed. Don’t point fingers. 2. Learn from it. Owning a mistake without learning how to avoid it is useless. Document what went wrong and the steps to correct the problem. 3. Get over it as soon as possible. You are not defined by a mistake. Your career is bigger than a problem, and you are more important than any job issue. Take mistakes as opportunities to bounce back and enrich your career. Failure in our career is not about if, it is about when. - - - - - - - - - - 2582+ camera operators, producers, MCR pros, and many more people from our industry will receive "The Ministry of Broadcasting" tomorrow. 𝟱 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 I Give to Those Feeling Stuck in Their Broadcasting Careers. You’ve been at the same company for 10 years and there is no clear path for growth. Sounds familiar? One of the biggest pain points that emerges from my conversations with colleagues and mentees is the feeling of being stuck. In the last 2 weeks, I talked to 4 different people experiencing this dreadful sensation. Women and men have dedicated a decade to a job, and after all this time, there's no path to a promotion, a better salary, or even some new challenges in the same role. Every case is different, but when asked about this situation, these are my 5 recommendations: 5. Assess the situation. Is this just a thought that will go away, or are you truly done with your role? 4. Have a tough conversation. Talk to your boss and ask what your chances are to grow and how the company sees you. If you don’t say anything, they won’t ask. 3. Become the one who makes the decisions. If you are happy with your “boring” job and the money you get paid, stay. If you want something else, start looking for other options now. 2. Be loyal, but not foolish. Your current company doesn’t see the value in what you do beyond your actual role. There’s nothing wrong with looking for new opportunities to grow. 1. Be afraid, but still do it. Change is scary, but regret is like a real-life horror movie. “I wish I had” is one of the worst phrases to say when you can't do anything about it. Bet on you, look for a place or a role that excites you. You deserve it. - - - - - - - Don’t let location limit your broadcasting career.
