IIoT, Smart Manufacturing, Industry 4.0(5.0), industrial cloud, etc. applications need data - this data comes from the devices and machines at the lowest level on the plant floor. A simple and cost effective way to gather this information is to use IO-Link which enables transmission to where it is needed at higher levels. Thank you Christian Holder for sharing the latest HMS Industrial networking results (2023). I've analyzed and graphed the data since 2015 (note that 2023 had to be normalized to to HMS' exclusion of wireless from their main graph). The dramatic shift from Fieldbusses to industrial Ethernet is very clear, growing from 34% share to 71%. PROFINET, Ethernet/IP and EtherCAT have each gained more than 10pts share during this period. Today we awarded the Dave Houghton Sportsmanship award to three Tiburon Peninsula Little League (TPLL) players. I have been involved in leadership of TPLL for more than 10 years, in roles ranging from coach to COO/Player Agent, and this is one of the most gratifying things TPLL has done during that time. Dave was an amazing coach, able to work with each player one-on-one to motivate them and bring out their best, while forging hugely successful teams from a wide range of abilities in an enabling, fun environment - there are a lot lessons in positive leadership to be learned from Dave. Society faces many challenges: technological, social, political, economic and environmental. And we will hand off a rapidly changing world to the next generation. This group of kids and their peers give hope that they can handle these challenges. They were recognized for exemplary sportsmanship, leadership, positive attitude, grit and deep passion - and there are many more like them in our community, our nation, and around the world.
