From April, companies paying the Apprenticehsip Levy can transfer up to 50% of their fund each year. Just one more day of an exilirating week working with the STFC apprentices at #RAL Exploring how our Insights colour preferences have an effect on everything we do. Creating fun in learning with an exercise to design a poster to advertise a charity chocolate egg hunt, which tends to go: 🔴big & bold, straight to the point. They have their own ideas & just carry on with little checking in. This group normally finishes first - making it a competition. 🔵lots of talking before pens get anywhere near the paper. Not so many images but lots of detail, including the sat nav postcode. 🟢everyone has an input, they check in constantly to make sure everyone is in agreement. They all draw at the same time & make sure the poster covers something for everyone. 🟡lots of talking, increased excitement as the ideas flow. Lots of images, but they forget the date, time & place. 🍂 I have always felt that, next to April, October is my favorite time of year. Change of season, more perfect weather days, and putting together strategy and plans for the coming 12 months. For the ACDS team, as part of the Arkansas Apprenticeship Alliance, 2024 is already looking like a watershed year. A quick review of the ACDS business model: ACDS doesn’t sell anything. We provide services for Arkansas employers, and quality careers for individual Arkansans. Our funding comes from public/private entities. We have federal grants, state grants, private foundation grants, and private donations. After four years of operation, we’ve established our value proposition and a reputation as a trusted steward of the funding that we have received. Going forward, ACDS continues to move to more federal and private funding as a percentage of our total budget. Without asking, we’re increasingly hearing from corporate organizations and individuals who, upon learning about ACDS and our work for Arkansas, ask, “How can we help?” 🎉 This month we’re formally introducing a “Donate” capability on the www.acds.co website under the theme Give the Next Generation of Arkansans a Brighter Future. Our initial funding launch has a goal of $100,000 by January 31, 2024. 🔔 ACDS “rings the bell” every time an Arkansan goes to work for an Arkansas employer. To date, we have 130 employers participating statewide, and more than 700 Arkansans, through our apprenticeship program, in jobs with a starting average income of $60,000. EQ supports small businesses and charities with our levy gifting initiative.    We’ve pledge an initial £50,000 of our unspent levy to support small business and charities to upskill their people and to support new apprentices. Our first gift is to Innov8, an education charity based in Suffolk, who support young people aged 11-16 who are finding life a challenge. The team at Innov8 provide young people with a host of skills including joinery, mechanic, and woodwork to music, cookery and photography. They also upset their tutors with qualifications to support.    Our gifted levy funds will fund four tutors to complete the learning and skills teacher level 5 apprenticeship!      How does levy gifting works?    Large employers that pay the apprenticeship levy can choose to transfer up to 25% of their levy funds each year to other businesses, to pay for their apprenticeship training and assessment. https://lnkd.in/dNPAgUCH

Here is a FANTASTIC example of a company using their apprenticeship levy to achieve their CSR or Sustainability goals. Through levy gifting, Corndel can support companies to help charities to development, retain and upskill their vital workers. Empowering rural youth to take leadership roles in their communities requires a holistic approach that recognizes the importance of both individual and communal development. Strategies for building the capacities of rural youth include the "Grow Your Own Strategy," which encourages local organizations to become self-sufficient and fosters local leadership development through internships and apprenticeships. The "Regional Approach" supports collaboration across multiple communities to address common challenges and pool resources. Providing "Inclusive Physical Spaces" is important for creating safe and engaging environments for youth to participate in community events and activities. "Outdoor Education" offers experiential learning opportunities that connect youth to their natural surroundings and local history. "Collaboration with Stakeholders" brings together local organizations, elected officials, and community members to work collectively on projects and initiatives. "Philanthropic Support" secures grants and donations to sustain long-term investment in youth leadership development. Other strategies include "Co-Curricular Activities, Vocational Training, Sports," "Parent and Community Involvement," "Technology Integration," and "Addressing Socioeconomic Barriers."

Why only 7? "7 hawkers joined succession scheme in two years; others cite lack of incentives to join". "Two have transferred their stalls to their successors, while a third is in the process of doing so. Another two have been matched with aspiring successors, and the remaining two are awaiting potential successors, The process of matching retiring hawkers and aspiring successors requires time and effort for a relationship to be built, said the National Environment Agency (NEA) in response to queries from ST. “In some situations, the runway to retire is shortened due to the veteran hawker’s health or other personal reasons that require them to give up their stalls more urgently and the HSS may not work out,” said NEA, adding that it regularly reviews the scheme. The scheme caters to retiring veteran cooked-food hawkers who have been operating in NEA-managed hawker centres for at least 15 years." Surely more needs to be done here? Apprenticeships are not about: 📍 Forcing someone in to a programme ⚡ Being offered to only 'top right' performers 1️⃣ A one off learning experience Apprenticeships are about: 🕛 Continuous Learning 🤝 A collaborative partnership between us, the charity/organisation and the learners 🤲 An impactful option for all staff, not just those who are the high performers 💲 A cost-effective learning and development opportunity using apprenticeship levy (or gifted levy...did you know we won an award for our work on that?!) We work directly with #L&D and People Leads, along with the Department Heads to decide what the right apprenticeship is for your learners and charity strategy. It is not about just having 1-2 learners from a large organisation ad-hoc, as you will struggle to see impact.
