Developing a strong understanding of place value is essential for young learners, and one of the best ways to achieve this is by providing a variety of games, puzzles, and explorations throughout the school year. One activity to reinforce place value skills is the 100 dot puzzle. In these puzzles, only the dots for 1-10, 50, and 100 are labeled on a grid of 100 dots. Students must think carefully about where to plot each sum or difference to reveal the mystery picture. What are some activities you find effective for building place value understanding in K-2nd grade?

I love using the classic game Battleship to practice plotting points on a coordinate plane. What I don't love is how much space the storage of the game takes place. My solution was to create my own digital version of the game. My students still enjoy playing the game, and my storage problems are solved! Get all the details in the post. #coordinateplane #mathteaching https://lnkd.in/gEWDS22x

So proud to have finished my last semester with two amazing projects: Might-Eez Workshop & Getting AHead. These two projects are likely my most impressive projects yet and I couldn't have asked for a better class of students to work with on either project. Might-Eez Workshop was my first project with complex interacting systems but thanks to my recent work in learning gameplay programming patterns it was actually quite simple to make, and is not my favorite project that I've ever worked on. The only thing I wish I'd had time to develop before the end of the semester would be a proper tutorial for each of the games. Downloads for both can be found on my personal itch.io page: https://lnkd.in/gH_BSZkq
Semester is wrapping up... here are some samples from our Media Arts and Game Development capstone courses. Lots of interesting stuff this past Fall!!!! University of Wisconsin-Whitewater

"He's very smart, but doesn't study." That's what Bernardo told me last week during our consultation. Instead of studying or doing homework at home, his middle schooler, "only does his phone, computer, and video games." So, Bernardo signed his son up for the Love to Learn study skills program. Happy to say we had a very successful lesson all about note taking this past week, and we're all looking forward to Thursday's! Welcome to The Batch! If you have a tween, teen, or young adult like Bernardo's son, let's talk! Say "me" below. #lovetolearn #parentsofteens #parentingteens #momsofteens #studyskills #studystrategies #studytips

We asked Vikas Jindal, our Senior Engineering Manager, to tell us his favorite SKIDOS game and here's what he had to say: "Of all our games, Bath is the most fun! Simple but so engaging, I like how entertaining and familiar it is for kids. As kids play SKIDOS Bath, they not only learn valuable educational content but also develop essential hygiene practices and manners. It beautifully demonstrates how knowledge and good habits go hand in hand, creating a positive impact on kids’ overall well-being." #EducationWithFun #EverydayLearning #GamingForEducation #TransformativeLearning
