Professional sports teams have begun to realize that a stadium is only part of the equation when it comes to revitalizing areas. Mixed-use developments are now almost essential to supporting a stadium, and an area's vitality, long-term. BRV has worked with a few professional teams, including the Green Bay Packers when they developed Titletown, a mixed-use district across the street from Lambeau Field. https://lnkd.in/dsbU7uDV #parks #parkandrec #publicspace #publicspaces #urbanization #placemaking #cityplanning #urbanplanning #programming #cities #urbanism #greenbaypackers #greenbay #titletown #mixeduse #mixedusedevelopment #development #wisconsin #ballparkvillage #mets #stlouiscardinals #larams #inglewood

Exciting Development for NYC FC Since its inception in 2015, New York City FC has experienced the challenges of not having a permanent home, often alternating between Yankee Stadium and various other locations across the five boroughs. In 2027, that's all set to change with the construction of its very own stadium next to Citi Field in Willets Point. This isn't just about soccer; it's a monumental project that integrates sports with urban development. Here’s what’s coming: 🏟️ A state-of-the-art stadium 🏡 The largest all-affordable housing initiative in the area 🏫 A new public school 🏨 A modern hotel Soccer, or football as it's known to the rest of the world, is the most popular sport globally, with over 4 billion enthusiasts. Despite soccer’s vast American fan base, the U.S. leagues are often seen as underdogs compared to European giants in England, Spain, Germany and Italy. With these developments, is the U.S. on the brink of changing this narrative? https://loom.ly/XjB4J88 #architecture #stadiumdesign #urbanplanning #soccer Sterling Equities Related Companies HOK

// 🔥 In a ground-breaking announcement, the Allan Labor Government and the AFL are set to explore a significant development opportunity that could breathe new life into the Marvel Stadium Docklands waterfront precinct. Under this joint venture, Development Victoria, the government’s property developer and major project agency, will collaborate with the AFL to reshape 140 and 160 Harbour Esplanade. Notably, Development Victoria acquired the leasehold to 160 Harbour Esplanade in 2018, a site currently occupied by the Channel 7 broadcast centre. The adjacent Channel 7 building, nestled next to AFL House, is also poised to play a pivotal role in the envisioned Harbour Esplanade overhaul. The ambitious redevelopment plan extends to Central Pier, where early removal works are already underway as part of an overarching strategy to breathe new life into the precinct. The state government’s vision for Central Pier’s transformation is crucial, following its permanent closure in 2020, and forms an integral component of the broader waterfront redevelopment. #melbourneproperty #victoria #urbanplanning #urbandesign #architecture #townplanning #constructionindustry #cityplanning #melbournerealestate #melbournearchitecture #infrastructure https://lnkd.in/giv5YzDk

Now that we are down to the finish line on two sites, you will find that there will be supporters and detractors of the site that is chosen. Each site will have its own architectural value, which means you have two totally different experiences based on the physical location of the new stadium. No new stadium ever meets all of the stated architectural goals. It might be facing the wrong way compared to a certain part of the city, it might be too tall, or it may emit too much light. But holistically, it's there to hold tens of thousands of people, get them in and out efficiently, and to create gameplay that leads to economic activity. https://lnkd.in/gUprdvwy

The venue is in a sort of no man’s land capacity wise. Acts don’t mount 30k capacity stadium tours. It’s not economically feasable. You mount a 40-50k stadium tour or you do multiple night arena shows in a market. Going from arena to stadium costs don’t scale in a linear fashion from 20 to 30k. Steel costs alone will eat that up as you need to rotate at least two sets. They may get a dirt show or two and a festival but nothing really big touring wise (if any) will stop there when an NFL stadium and an NHL arena are within walking distance. This is the first inkling of the A’s backing out of the retractable roof. It decreases the cost to the A’s but doesn’t decrease public funding. https://lnkd.in/gyDHK8dz

RFK Stadium cleared for demolition after 5 years of sitting empty D.C.’s Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium has been cleared for demolition after the National Park Service found that the demolition would have no negative impact on the environment surrounding RFK campus The 63-year-old stadium has been in serious disrepair for years and has not been used since 2019. While Events D.C., the organization responsible for the management of the stadium, had cleared it out, the city had been waiting as NPS evaluated if the stadium on park land could be safely taken down. The next step is for NPS to issue a permit for the D.C. government to demolish the stadium. Then both administrations will need to sign an agreement that the District can continue to use the property, according to the 1957 District of Columbia Stadium Act’s requirements. The 1957 act first established that the Armory Board could establish and maintain a stadium in D.C. for “holding athletic events and other activities and events.” The Amory Board finished building RFK Stadium in 1961 and named it after Robert F. Kennedy following the assassination of the senator. The act was amended in 1993 so the District could use land around the stadium for parking and create a new stadium. The new amendments made it clear that the D.C. government would be responsible for building, maintaining, naming and operating the new stadium. The House passed a bill in February that would allow D.C. to redevelop the old RFK site, a move widely seen as opening the door for construction of a new stadium for the Washington Commanders. The RFK Memorial Stadium Campus Revitalization Act, which would enter D.C. into a 99-year lease of the site, passed the House on a 348-55 vote and is headed to the Senate. #rfkstadium #rfk #legendarysportsstadiums #sportsindustry #washingtondc #wtop
