[Thinking Overthinking: Just Do It!] My heart was pounding really quick. ‘Should I do it, or should I not?’ I whispered to my plus-one for the evening. ‘I will go with you if you choose to,’ replied my friend and strategic business partner Melvyn Tan. ‘As Nike says, just do it!’ I muttered and quickly got up from my table. I put on the biggest sunshine smile and strode across the ballroom before fear caught up with me. ‘Dear Madam President, thank you for being here tonight. I am so glad to be one of the recipients and I would like to present you with a copy of my book, Fly Free.’ And that’s how, as Melvyn quipped later that evening, ‘The President of Singapore is now a reader of yours.’ That moment happened during the awards dinner for the recipients of the SkillsFuture Fellowships Awards 2018. Presented by the President of the Republic of Singapore, the SkillsFuture Fellowships are Singapore’s highest skills awards honouring individuals as masters of skills and mentors of future talent. Again, I have Nike’s famous slogan to thank for having the gumption to apply for the award. Just do it. It is my favourite call to action whenever I feel afraid, defeated or unenthusiastic. In August I have finished my MDE (Manager Development Experience) which is an adidas internal development program over several months, to prepare yourself for the next career step and future. I have learned new things around high performance, leadership, growth mindset, values and many more.   Below I would like to share my key takeaways for growth mindset with you.   1. Turn challenges into opportunities: Try to avoid negative thoughts and don’t be biased. Take on the challenges that daily (work) life might bring to you. Try to see always the positive and deliver the best outcome possible. No matter how small the task might be, give your all – cause then you might get remembered also for the upcoming tasks next time. Your hard work will get recognized and being rewarded.   2. Emotional intelligence, the art of listening:  Learn how to listen correctly. There is a reason why we have two ears and just one mouth, because we should listen twice as much as we speak. Sometimes it can be helpful to step one step back and ask yourself why a person is asking this question or saying that sentence to you. Try to understand their point of view and where the person is coming from – don’t just react on that. This can be used and practiced in daily private but also business life. A skill that is needed every time and everywhere.    3. Seek clarity to understand the expectations but also act with courage: Set the base for your task, understand the necessary outcome/target. This will help you when drawing your plan how to get there. Sometimes you might not know all details from the beginning, but showing courage to get there is key. This will also push you out of your comfort zone and brings personal growth.   4. Learn from your mistakes: Don’t be afraid to make mistakes but learn from them. Everyone is doing mistakes and that is ok. This also comes with acting courageous because you can’t be an expert in everything. Ask for feedback to improve your skills step by step. But don’t lose your faith and trust the process.     I have met many talented people that made this program special. Big thanks to the organizers & lecturers (Linda Evenhuis, Petar Mitrovic, Nicole Schachter, MBA, Natalie Gaksch) and all people involved. I really loved to connect with so many of you and to extend my network. Excited to share a project I worked on this year in my International Baccalaureate Business Management course! I developed a comprehensive marketing plan for a product that I created, the Nike Your Way (NYW) shoes. These innovative shoes feature color-changing technology and real-time health statistics through an integrated app, designed specifically for high-performance athletes. Key Highlights: I Conducted thorough research to identify target segments and positioning for NYW shoes. Furthermore, I developed clear marketing objectives and tactics to boost brand awareness and sales of the NYW shoes. I also crafted strategies for product, price, promotion, and distribution to ensure a successful launch. This project was a fantastic opportunity to blend creativity with analytical skills and gain hands-on experience in marketing strategy. Moreover, it solidified my desire to study business in college! Looking forward to applying these skills in future business endeavors! Confidence is key. I started running with a Nike Group and the coaches asked, "How do you want to feel when our season ends?" My answer: Confident. Then I asked myself, "what would make me feel confident as a runner?" There was only 1 right answer, which was to PRACTICE. Rather than just applying this concept to my run club, I decided to apply it to an upcoming speaking engagement as well. Today I had the honor to speak in front of 100+ students at Discovery Partners Institute, a subset of University of Illinois Chicago, on the power of branding + LinkedIn. Walking away from this event, I felt an overwhelming sense of confidence. 📊 Diving into Nike's Stock Decline: Insights from TCU Research For our research course at TCU, we conducted a situational analysis, quantitative research, and market research, utilizing databases like IBIS World and Mintel through @Texas Christian University's Library. Through this comprehensive approach, we aimed to uncover the underlying factors affecting Nike's stock performance. Our findings indicate that the stock decline is primarily due to two factors: Nike's lack of innovation and competitors' capitalizing on market trends. While Nike has maintained its brand strength, the slow pace of introducing groundbreaking products has allowed rivals to seize market opportunities. This highlights the importance of continuous innovation in maintaining market leadership. A big thank you to our Professor Guy J.
