I had no intentions of being an event host. I'm the kinda girl that is happy being booked for speaking gigs and rocking up to do my thing, but last year I stepped out by faith and did something that scared me. I organised my very first big event. I wanted to see if I had the guts to do this after being inspired by the likes of Dr. Raphael Sofoluke and Dr Tru Powell. But my offer was different. How could I raise the visibility of diverse business owners, women, black and brown business owners, small business owners to give them the opportunity to be in front of corporates. Networking is an essential part of business, and there are 2 distinct types. On one hand, there's attending events where there's a good chance you might cross paths and conversations with potential clients. That's a form of prospecting. And then, on the other hand, there's connectworking, where you cross paths and have conversations with peers. That's a form of sustenance! It's the latter that I facilitate. I've noticed lately there's an ever-increasing desire for women who run their own businesses, practices and consultancies to get away from the ISOLATION that is commonplace and to CONNECT in real life, not on a screen. When we gather, we're not in competition. We share our experiences, resources, challenges, networks, ideas and feedback openly and wholeheartedly. It's a relief and a delight to connect over a good meal in this way! I've been quietly hosting my Next Chapter Dinners for businesswomen for close to 6 years now. I guess the best way to describe them is a mix of inspiration and education, masterminding and connection. My guests tell me they’re rather unique and hugely enjoyable and that’s why they keep coming back and bringing friends and colleagues along with them.
