International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples Indigenous communities often have unique insights and perspectives on their own environments and resources. By supporting and funding indigenous-led research projects that utilize Indigenous Knowledge (IK) and local knowledge, collected year-round over millennia, data can be collected, analyzed and re-used in a way to study mercury contamination in the Arctic that is culturally appropriate and relevant to indigenous communities. https://lnkd.in/dWcFkC8u When indigenous communities have access to data and training in data analysis, they are empowered to make informed decisions about development and resource management. By empowering indigenous communities in decision-making, this helps to ensure that decisions are made in a way that respects indigenous rights and priorities. #DataReuse #IndigenousDay #IndigenousPeoplesDay

Today is the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, to remind us that the struggle of Indigenous Peoples is ongoing, and that they are at the forefront of the movement against climate injustices. InsightShare is honoured to have worked with more than 30 Indigenous community partners across 5 continents over the past 20 years! We share their vision for a fair and just society. The stories we bring to you today are stories of resistance and wisdom from Indigenous storytellers and filmmakers. These stories remind us to stand in solidarity with Indigenous communities worldwide in building a fair and just future where we all live in harmony with nature and ecosystems. Decolonisation means an end to inequality, respect for the diversity of knowledges and life ways, respecting our non-human relatives, and demanding an end to extractive, profit-driven practices which are poisoning our beautiful planet.
