𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸? With the abiding collaborative spirit of the Liquid Legal Institute e.V., we were thrilled to exchange experiences and insights on cutting-edge solutions for legal departments. 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲! Together, we explored various challenges faced by legal departments, brainstormed ways to align other departments processes with legal, leverage data for growth and gaining objective insights, and delved into the realm of legal front door solutions. We also passionately discussed the importance of 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵, 𝗲𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝘁 𝗮 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘇𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Have you ever felt like you're just circling the same ideas and people in the world of legal tech? Looking at my algorithm-prompted LinkedIn feed today, I realize I am just swimming in the same bowl as my fellow legal tech enthusiasts. How do we jump out of this fishbowl into the industry's ocean? Those of us with a propensity towards legal technology and change management often find ourselves at webinars, conferences, and talks surrounded by like-minded individuals. While these gatherings are invaluable, true progress requires us to engage with a broader audience. Only by engaging those who are ambivalent, hesitant, or outright resistant to enhancing their services with generative AI technology can we make a meaningful impact. How do we do that? Here are some ideas: ➡ Guest lecture at law schools to inspire the next generation. ➡ Attend practice- or industry-specific conferences and tailor your message to specific legal practices, demonstrating how technologies like generative AI can enhance workflows and improve outcomes that are client-centric and specific. ➡ Engage in open dialogues with those skeptical about legal tech to encourage a shift in perspective. Maybe even start "devil's advocate" conferences on generative AI where the pros and cons are highlighted and debated on stage. ➡ Engage administrators, paralegals, business personnel, and other support departments at law firms. Most legal departments now have some form of legal operations, but the same cannot be said of the majority of law firms. ➡ Specificity is key. Be specific when describing how enhancements can be made, but always start with explaining how to do it securely and ethically. ➡ Surely you have other ideas, please share them. By engaging in meaningful dialogues with diverse legal professionals, including the many that are not convinced they should change their ways, we can catalyze change.
