Really interesting point on how admitting failures can improve how approachable you are as a leader. Do you think leaders should remain calm & collective or should leaders make themselves relatable to encourage honest relationships? What are your thoughts?

Vulnerability is strength—-no one person or leader will ever have all the answers, we need each other, we need to create environments where asking for help, in all the nuances this entails, to be the norm. When we do this, when we live our values in fostering psychological safety, show empathy and compassion, treat people with caring respect and dignity, we invite people to show up as their authentic selves and acknowledge the humanity behind the work. This becomes foundational in building trust.
Check out Simon’s 40 secs. of wisdom on building trust within teams.

*Another Improv Insight*
There’s a concept in improv that is aligned with what Simon Sinek is talking on here.
It’s called “announce your truth.”
In most cases, it is a tactic for getting “unstuck.”
Novice improviser are always worried about:
✅ What do I do if I get stuck?
✅ What if I don’t know what to do next?
✅ What if I freeze?
✅What if nothing comes to me?
Read that last part again but switch the context of improv with with the context of #life…
✅ What do I do when I feel stuck in life?
✅ What if I don’t know what to do next in life?
✅ What if I freeze and can’t move on?
✅ What if nothing comes to me?
“Announce your truth” is the secret weapon here in both improv and life. If an improviser announces their truth: “I know I’m a ring leader of a circus but I have no idea where I am right now,” two things happen:
1️⃣ By announcing their truth, they immediately ground themselves in the present reality. They crystallize their given circumstances.
2️⃣ They signal to those around them that they need help and where they need help. It’s a specific ask and the team can then begin supporting in the areas of need.
Just one more example of how improv is so much more than silliness, games, and “making things up on the spot.” It is a powerful force for empowering mindsets.

Simon Sinek says it like it truly is. I have learned so much from his teachings on leadership and empowering everyone on your team to achieve their best!
The Best Way You Can Build Trust Among Your Team
“The single best way to build trust among your team is to take the initiative to work on key leadership qualities as an individual. Simon emphasizes that leadership is a skill that all workers can practice, regardless of their formal position.”

Building a trusting team culture is essential for fostering open communication and collaboration. Embracing vulnerability, acknowledging our mistakes, and seeking support from our team members not only strengthens bonds but also fuels personal and collective growth.
