https://lnkd.in/gvyWSPh8 Best Museums in Europe Best Museums in Europe.Europe is a hotbed of tradition. The continent’s lengthy records, peppered with Roman, Greek, Ottoman, Hungarian, and Napoleonic rule alongside epoch-defining intervals of art and tune, plus many nations’ colonial pasts mean that art, structure, and historical past are rich and varied

This is something that all museums and collections need to consider. How to make the whole collection accessible to the public and/or researchers. While virtual museums certainly are a good start, one often wants to experience the works live also. Real estate and physical exhibitions however is costly so funding could be a challenge. #collections #art #museums #arthistory

Museum labels give you your bearing. They're interesting. A brief description of the painting is harmless. But, if they were removed you'd still leave with an impression, it'll just be of your own making. Interpretation boards I'd argue are less useful than museum interp. Historic houses employ them for displays and exhibitions and they're a lifeless form of written interpretation. Interp must be creative, visionary, imaginative and a force to play with your senses. Example interp is VR, digital, sensory and oral. Interp needs to be a masterful attempt at visual and if needed, written communication. Something I'd like to explore more, ways to immerse our audience in a world of vision, sound and colour. #interpretation #historichouse #digitalinterp #visitorengagement

Fabulous article! I had no idea she was an abstract artist as well. We live in fantastic times where, as women, we can freely and unapologetically be complex individuals and no longer live in ‘the box’ others tried to place us in. As human beings we are never just one thing; we are these interesting mix of life experiences, desires, loves, dislikes and sooo much more = beautifully uniquely complex 💕 Love her body of work shown in this article and looking forward to following her further.
The multi-hyphenate star took us on a tour of her new exhibition and sat down for a sprawling, enlightening conversation.

Do you think all the world’s art is on show in museums and galleries? Where do you think that collections of art sit when not on show? A lesser talked about issue within the art world is the mass storage of collections in warehouses around the world. Whilst it is a shame we don’t get to see all the magnificent works of art, a more pressing issue is the environmental impact of storing so many works. Due to conservation concerns, these warehouses are climate controlled to ensure the stored pieces do not deteriorate over time. It takes a substantial amount of energy to keep these warehouses running efficiently (and this energy is more often than not from non-renewable sources). These high energy demands take up a huge chunk of the carbon footprint of museums and galleries. Whilst transforming these facilities into an open storage gallery for public view is a step in the right direction for connecting “lost art” with the art community, from a long term sustainability perspective, there needs to be more transparency about the current management of collections behind the scenes.

The challenge of art forgery is present within the institutional (museum) system as the collective expertise is capable of failure to determine what is a fake artwork. Read Hephaestus Analytical latest informative post.
Both of these Popovas are from museum collections, can you tell which is a forgery? There are countless examples of museums acquiring and displaying forgeries throughout the history of art. The Courtauld Gallery, London and the Ludwig Museum, Cologne have both recently held exhibitions displaying forgeries that had been acquired and displayed throughout each institution’s histories.
