#OpioidSettlementFunds are an unprecedented opportunity to save lives and make a dent in the #overdosecrisis. In my role overseeing these funds in Wake County, I am grateful that resources such as The Principles for the Use of Funds From the Opioid Litigation from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health are available to help guide this important work. If you haven't seen The Principles, I highly encouraging checking them out. 1. Spend money to save lives. 2. Use evidence to guide spending. 3. Invest in youth prevention. 4. Focus on racial equity. 5. Develop a transparent, inclusive decision-making process. https://lnkd.in/gZh3-9D4

Executive Director at National Homelessness Law Center (formerly the National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty)
Housing is Health Care. ✅ Being forced to sleep outside - because you have nowhere else to go - is harmful to your health. ✅ When communities fail to provide housing or shelter to all residents, they are hurting the health of their unhoused residents. ✅ When communities penalize people for being forced to sleep outside, they are punishing them for having no other choice. This is what's at issue in the SCOTUS #HomelessCrueltyCase Join me and other health justice advocates to discuss what's on the horizon for 2024, including how Johnson v. Grants Pass affects #healthjustice.
Join us today for the first Health Justice Call of 2024! If you're wondering... 🔸 Where did we, the Health Justice Movement, go in 2023, and where must we go in 2024? 🔸 How do we organize across our fields, from the local to national level, to protect the health and rights of all of our communities? 🔸 How do we build momentum for change with another critical election rapidly approaching? Join us at 1 PM ET to find out, link to register: bit.ly/hjc-february2024 Our speakers for the event: Taylor Givens-Dunn, Policy & Power Building Manager, I Be Black Girl Sophie Simon-Ortiz, Organizing Project Director, Human Impact Partners Tari Hanneman, Director, Health & Aging Program, Human Rights Campaign Foundation Andrea R. Harris, Director of Policy Programs, Protect Our Care Antonia Fasanelli (She/Her) Antonia K. Fasanelli, Executive Director, National Homelessness Law Center

In our latest report, Care For Our Future: The roadmap to a sustainable future for adult social care, Care England calls on the next Government to deliver a fully-mapped prevention and integration plan within five years of entering office. This long-term strategy must be aimed at developing a holistic approach that supports individuals before, during and after they enter the social care, while empowering individuals to remain fully integrated in society and live in dignity, independent of their health or dependency status. Spoke with 95bfm about our petition calling for an end to the Ram Raid Bill. The Bill creates a false perception that it is capable of increasing community safety. However, by fast tracking kids into the criminal justice system, it risks fracturing our communities further and causing greater harm in our communities. Many of our political leaders are not being honest with us about how we solve these challenges. Harsher, more punitive approaches don't prevent the behaviour the community is concerned about, because these are not actions or decisions being made in rationale, adult, developed minds. This behaviour is arising from traumatized children, children who are disabled, who are being abused, who are in poverty, who are mentally unwell, children who need our love and support. That may be hard to swallow, especially if your family or business has suffered also, but it doesn’t make it any less true. In the end, if we want stronger, more connected communities, we won't build them through revenge based policies that ignore the evidence and contribute to the problem. You can't solve an issue by ignoring what is causing it in the first place. There's a lot we can do to respond to the challenges our communities are facing, the Ram Raid Bill is not the on. Sign and share our petition and than join us at Parliament on the 26th June, 12pm: https://lnkd.in/gaZw9Ace https://lnkd.in/g8wxnji8

The first three most inspiring and frequently quoted words in the United States Constitution are "We the People." These words represent an essential aspect of life as they give hope in popular sovereignty. They teach us that we are equal and endowed with certain inalienable rights, such as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Community Health Workers play a crucial role in transmitting the hope embodied by "We the People" as they represent, understand, and are part of many communities within the Commonwealth of Virginia. Today, Community Health Workers are facing a critical time as many are at risk of being defunded, which impacts minoritized communities the most. You can make a difference by unifying our voices and supporting this critical workforce, not just for a short-term fix, but to ensure sustainable funding through Medicaid becomes a reality for many individuals and families. As a CHW or ally, we encourage you to respectfully approach your legislators and advocate for policies that strengthen Virginia's Community Health Worker workforce. Your presence, whether in person at the General Assembly Building (GAB) or virtually, can make a significant difference. You can show your support for this cause by wearing a white T-shirt. Remember, your voice matters, and together, we can ensure that actions are taken to make a difference in the lives of Community Health Workers and the communities they serve. *Check the meeting schedule here: https://lnkd.in/eV4k2Mzd **Join the streaming here: https://lnkd.in/ehh85hfG **Share this link with others https://lnkd.in/e9yudKNp

At the Alliance for Rights and Recovery, we know that people must be able to choose and access the resources they need to recover and thrive. This requires systemic change that we can only achieve by working together to advocate for policies that ensure access to resources for a dignified, self-directed life! This means putting boots on the ground to secure funding for critical services like supportive housing and community-based behavioral health services while advocating for criminal justice reform and investment in the mental health care field and its workers. By utilizing our large network of professionals, organizations, and programs, we push for transformative legislative change that fosters recovery and defends human rights across the country. I lead messaging, communications, and media relations strategies that drive change for political, nonprofit, and private sector missions.
Many people ask what actions they can take to engage on the #NationalDayOfRacialHealing and this is one simple action to ensure we all can learn #HowWeHeal.
Your local leaders can – and should! – commit to racial healing on #NationalDayOfRacialHealing and every day. When policymakers choose to learn and advance #RacialHealing, they choose to acknowledge and address systemic racism and can promote policies that get to the root of why we heal: to address inequities in systems like housing, education, public safety, and other day-to-day things. That’s why we created the Policymaker Action Kit: to remind our leaders that they have the power to facilitate these conversations in their communities. Want to participate in National Day? Let your leaders know that their constituents are ready to heal. Download our action kit and send it to your leader using the sample email in our graphic below: https://lnkd.in/gxcPvmd5
