Mitchell Brewing Co.'s cheeky beer name, Osama Bin Lager, is creating a buzz! This light citrus lager has social media thirsty for a taste, temporarily crashing the brewery's website. Brewery owners Luke and Catherine Mitchell told the BBC that the beer names, including Kim Jong Ale and Putin Porter, are meant to be humorous and offer a "nicer outlook on some horrible dictators." David Laity has a story, and it's damn good. Well, it's Goodwill Wine... A social enterprise, who blasted through the $500,000 donated to charity milestone, all through sales of their premium wine. BAM!! Black Saturday will be remembered as one of the most tragic days in Victoria's history. But it should also be remembered as the day the David was forced to think about his life, his purpose, and what was important to him. Almost everything he owned was destroyed, and he was forced to start again. Instead of using the money he received from charity to buy essentials, it was put into a business designed to give back to the charities which helped him get back on his feet. And so, Goodwill Wine was born. In this episode, David talks about how he started and grew the company (including living in the freezing cold warehouse to save money) and how just by drinking premium wine, you can do a whole lot of GOOD!! This is our kind of story. I know your thinking about wine now... This part is the best. Imagine a really great wine has the wrong colour cap put on it, and the winery can't sell it. Or it's bottled but they ran out of labels, and it's just sitting in the back of the winery gathering dust. These wines may sell for $60 on the shelf, but are labelled/relabelled as Goodwill wine, and sell for $25 on the Goodwill website. Restaurant Branding Tip of the Day (3/4/24): Have a "philanthropy board" in your physical space that shows the nonprofits you regularly donate your time and money to as a company. On the flip side, you can also have a "values in action board" in your physical space that illustrates other things that are important to your company. For instance, one that shows the Brand Values of "Humorous" (stand up shows) or "Creative" (poetry slams) at your restaurant in action. In sum, having some sort of a "Brand Culture Board" is a smart way to not only remind your customers and staff what your company finds most important but also looks good in general on your wall! Reflecting on the past year! **Real ale trails events landed in 6 counties and collaborated with 30 pubs, engaging with 3000 people, making a positive impact on the local economy. One major realisation was how difficult it was for local breweries to get their ales into pubs now. We are at serious risk of offering a monotonous drinking experience across the country if something doesn’t change as where will breweries sell there ales if not in the local boozers? Navigating the rising operational costs and limited consumer spending was last years constant challenge for me. Balancing these factors while projecting next year's sales is a delicate dance, fingers crossed for a smoother ride ahead. Beyond events I'm proud to have collaborated with tourism industry, manufacturing, county councils, leadership coaching, charities, and various companies, assisting them with marketing and sales efforts. A fair few people here have first hand experience of just how challenging it is to start your own business, it often takes every last ounce of your strength and resources. Combine that with creating a disruptive food brand that manufacturers in house from the start 🤯💰🤯💰💰🤯😱 We started small making 18 delicious Yorkies at at time. We now make 1000’s a day. So far we have managed this by investing all our savings, barely taking wage, instead using anything we make to re invest in the company. We do have a strategic plan for major expansion for which we will be seaking external investment but for now we have 3 big expenses that have all come in at once but need to happen asap to meet the ever increasing demand. If you could spare a few pounds or share, it will be greatly appreciated. Once we start making a profit we will donate the equivalent of all money raised to animal and climate charities, with a additional commitment to donate 2% of net profit to charity every Christmas.
