I still can't get over the fact that Nickleback has written a song for a mobile game that, despite having a huge audience, most people won't hear! Of course, there's a clever reason for that. Nickleback's latest song, Leave the Bone for the Crows, has been written as part of a collaboration with the action RPG Dungeon Hunter 6. You won't find the song on DSPs, and the only reason it's on YouTube is because someone's ripped the audio file from the game and uploaded it. This is probably because Dungeon Hunter 6's developer, Gameloft, wants to get as many Nickleback fans downloading the game to hear the song with the aim of converting them into players. A smart tactic for the game's download figures, perhaps, but I can't help but wonder if this would have performed better if the song got an official release and raised awareness of the fact Nickleback has a new song out. For the time being, Gameloft is counting on its external marketing efforts and the fact that Dungeon Hunter 6 is a new release to get people playing and listening. This is a completely different tactic from what I've seen in most music and gaming collaborations, where the music side of the collaboration has a heavy press push and relevant assets (such as the music!) are available to listen to online. Long hailed as a classic in this category, 7 𝘞𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘋𝘶𝘦𝘭 has been the benchmark, boasting several expansions that vary in impact. While the original remains a solid choice, there's an undeniable surge in adaptations of traditionally multi-player games for two participants. Titles such as Codenames, Conspiracy, Saboteurs and even recent favorites like Splendor and Wingspan have introduced two-player variants, tapping into this burgeoning trend. Among the various two-player games I enjoy—like Hanamikoji, The Fox in the Forest, Jaipur, Noir, and The Game—one stands out for its replay value and strategic depth: 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤. https://lnkd.in/eKDky_Qf Conceived by Uwe Rosenberg in 2014, Patchwork is a charming game that challenges players to craft a quilt from patches of varying patterns and sizes, all contained in a smallish, square box. Gameplay is swift, typically 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 30 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐬, but it does require a fair amount of space due to its 9x9 board and the 33 patches that players must manage around the central time board. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐦𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜—buttons! Each patch costs a certain number of buttons and consumes time, represented by the spaces your meeple advances on the time board. Patchwork also features a variety of thematic skins, such as Americana, Folklore Poland, and seasonal variations like Christmas and Winter. My personal favorite is the Halloween edition, where the buttons are replaced with eerie eyes! 👀 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐬𝐨 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 is its strategic complexity masked by simplicity. Players must evaluate each patch based on a 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐮𝐥𝐚 that considers the area it covers, its button cost, time expense, and potential button income. This strategic calculation can greatly influence game outcomes, especially when considering awkwardly shaped pieces that may offer hidden value. Here's an example : for the famous cross shaped patch you can apply the following formula: (space covered)-(button cost) – (time spent)+ (button income). In this case the result is is 6-1-5+1=1 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐚𝐦𝐞’𝐬 𝐚𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 are also a significant draw, with numerous editions that cater to diverse tastes. While 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝, they do require some acclimatisation, particularly the mechanics of player progression and timed button collection. 𝐈𝐧 𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲, Patchwork is highly recommended, though its spatial demands might not make it the best choice for travel. As a child, I was always enchanted by video games. I remember the countless hours spent with a controller in hand, eyes wide with excitement as I explored fantastical worlds and tackled amazing challenges. The magic of those virtual adventures sparked my imagination and ignited a lifelong passion for gaming. Now, fast forward to today, and I'm on the other side of the screen, creating my own games. I have started to learn Unity this week and I have made a horror game within 2 days to learn the engine. It's incredible to think that the same excitement I felt as a child now drives me to develop immersive experiences for others. I'm thrilled to share my recent project: "The Bloody Gate", a horror game I made using C# and machine learning(Reinforcement Learning) to code the Enemy AI and adapt to the player's movements. Hello there! Finally, I can share my personal passion project that I’ve been working on for a long time. I’ve been a Fallout fan since the early 2000s, the first installment in the series is my favorite game, and one of the reasons why I ended up in the game development. I wanted to contribute to the community somehow and wanted to get new players familiar with classic Fallout games. So I decided to make a short cinematic. Well, the scope of it… wasn’t short in any way, so I’m glad that I’m finally done with it, and I’m happy with the result anyway!
