Happy Independence Day to Dominica! 🇩🇲 Dominica, often referred to as the "Nature Isle of the Caribbean," gained its independence from British colonial rule on November 3, 1978. Prior to independence, Dominica was a British colony for nearly two centuries, having been claimed by the British in 1761. The road to independence was marked by various political and social movements, including calls for greater self-determination and autonomy. The struggle for independence in Dominica was influenced by broader movements for decolonization across the Caribbean region during the mid-20th century. After years of activism and political mobilization, Dominica's journey towards self-governance culminated in the attainment of full independence in 1978. This milestone allowed the people of Dominica to govern their own affairs, make decisions about their future, and shape their own destiny. Since gaining independence, Dominica has continued to develop as a sovereign nation, cherishing its natural beauty, unique culture, and the resilience of its people. It stands as a testament to the strength and determination of its citizens in achieving self-rule and maintaining its own distinct identity in the Caribbean. Happy Independence Day once again, Dominica! 🎉🇩🇲 #DominicaIndependence #Dominica #District81 #Caribbeantoastmasters #28Strong #Empoweringheartcells #Empoweringmindsets #Toastmatersinternational #whereleadersaremade

Happy Liberation Day Italia! On this 25th of April, as Italians come together to commemorate the invaluable gift of freedom and honor those who fought to defend it, let us extend our thoughts to oppressed peoples worldwide. Freedom is not just a national aspiration; it is a universal ideal that transcends borders and binds us all. It symbolizes the promise of a future where every individual can live without the shackles of oppression. Today serves as a poignant reminder to reflect on past triumphs and to forge ahead with unwavering support for those still striving for liberation. We must unite in solidarity with the oppressed. In the words of Nelson Mandela, 'To be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.' These words resonate deeply, reminding us that true freedom extends beyond personal liberty to encompass a commitment to safeguarding the rights of all. This includes standing in solidarity with the Ukrainian people in their quest for freedom, raising our voices against Russia and offering our support in whatever form possible. In the spirit of unity and compassion, let us renew our pledge to cultivate a world where freedom reigns supreme for every individual and every nation. #25Aprile #FestaDellaLiberazione #Resistenza #Libertà #Solidarietà #Ucraina

History of Albania history of the territory of the state or civilization Main article: Albania. The history of Albania is part of the history of Europe, and extends from prehistory to the contemporary age. During classical antiquity, Albania was inhabited by various Illyrian tribes such as the Ardiei, the Albanoi, the Amantini, the Enchelei, the Taulanti, the Dardani and many others, who settled between the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea and Pannonia . There was also no shortage of Thracian tribes and the many Greek colonies had settled on the Illyrian coast. In the 3rd century BC. the region was annexed to Rome, becoming part of the Roman provinces of Dalmatia, Macedonia and Moesia. Subsequently, the territory remained under the control of the Roman and Byzantine empires until the migrations of the Slavs in the 7th century. Albania was integrated into the Bulgarian Empire in the 9th century. In the Middle Ages the Principality of Arbanon was formed, separated from Byzantium, which was succeeded by the Kingdom of Albania founded in 1272 by Charles I of Anjou, king of Naples and incorporated into the Principality of Taranto. Subsequently some areas of present-day Albania became part of the Venetian Republic and then in the Serbian Empire. Between the mid-14th and late 15th centuries, most of the principalities that made up the region's political structure fell to the rapidly expanding Ottoman Empire. Albania remained under the control of the Ottoman Turks as part of the province of Rumelia until 1912 albeit with some interruptions during the 18th and 19th centuries with the affirmation of local lordships oriented towards autonomy. In 1912 a declaration of independence sanctioned its independence with the consequent formation of a national consciousness starting from the end of the 19th century. After the brief period of the monarchical state known as the Principality of Albania, which existed between 1914 and 1925, the first Albanian Republic of even shorter duration was established. In 1928 it was replaced by the Albanian Kingdom which ended its experience with the Italian occupation which began shortly before the Second World War. After the collapse of the Axis powers, Albania became a communist state, the People's Socialist Republic of Albania, which for most of its existence was governed by Enver Hoxha (d. 1985). Hoxha's political heir, Ramiz Alia, witnessed the disintegration of the state in the broader context of the collapse of the Eastern Bloc of the late 1980s. Today marks 76 years since #Partition and independence. Here are fifteen in-depth stories about the historical event that forever changed the subcontinent. At the midnight hour between August 14 and August 15 in 1947, the British partitioned the Indian subcontinent into #India and #Pakistan. Pakistan at the time consisted of West Pakistan and East Pakistan, which later became independent #Bangladesh in 1971. Pakistan celebrates its Independence Day on August 14 and India on August 15. When the British granted India independence, Sir Cyril Radcliffe, a British lawyer who had never been to the Indian subcontinent, drew the borders that divided the country along religious lines. The northwest and northeast went to Muslim-majority Pakistan. Secular India got the central and southern lands. Partition became the largest forced migration in history, with as many as 20 million relocating. The communal violence before, during, and after left millions dead. And thousands, if not tens or hundreds of thousands, remain missing or lost. Today, we bring you a roundup of 15 of our stories on Partition and independence. Dive into our readers’ Partition memories, how a neon-green beverage became a national drink, Hollywood’s depiction of those fateful days in 1947, how much British colonization cost the subcontinent, and more. https://lnkd.in/euY_X9Ku
