Greetings, Looking for diverse teachers, school and district administrator candidates, who are up for making a life long impact in our community.
Shot out to Hayes Moses (7-8th grade Social Studies teacher) and the Eagle’s Nest for having the 7-8th grade political debate on the 2nd Amendment and Gun safety yesterday. Far too real story from a student, our students don’t deserve to have to see, hear, and live the threat of gun violence daily.
We have to do better, and do more for their benefit.
State of Hawaii, wake up! This is the latest school shooting with deaths that occurred in Iowa. This situation could become a reality here. Based on the information from this particular news article, the perpetrator had a personal grievance (bullying); there obviously was some planning and preparation that went into carrying out this violent attack, as well as commonly used "leakage" communication of the impending attack posted on social media. All classic components of the attacker (a student) who was moving along a Pathway to Violence where ultimately the Attack occurs and there was no intervention to help and manage the situation.
How many students do we have in our 250+ State of Hawaii public schools that maybe moving along their Pathway to Violence? There are two things that I believe we must do immediately in this upcoming legislative session:
1) Provide School Resource Officers (SRO) for at least the highest risk schools initially and then migrate to all high schools. You would be surprised how much of a positive and responsive impact a dedicated SRO who is made a part of the school administrative team would have on a campus.
2) Seriously look at commitments to form and develop effective and meaningful Behavioral Threat Assessment Teams, both organizationally and community based. The State should take the lead on this and with the new State Department of Law Enforcement which began on January 1st, they would be the most logical to lead the effort.
We do have some legislators that are thinking a head and we will probably see some legislative bills be introduced, but how far will they go? Yes folks, we live in paradise and in the land of Aloha, but the reality is that our world and people-environment is changing for the worse and we must as a State see the true reality for what it is now. We cannot under any circumstances have a knee-jerk and emotional reaction after the fact when devastating loss of life occurs in any one of our schools. We must prepare and prevent now!
PEACE AND SAFETY THROUGH KNOWLEDGE AND PREPARATION
When I look at posts like this the first thing I ask: Is the author a legitimate humanitarian? Typical, the answer is no. This is another illegitimate post & a big NO! Let's look at the facts. In 2023 40,167 people died from gun violence. How does that compare to other causes of death? During the same period; Heart disease: 702,880, Cancer: 608,371, Accidents: 227,039, Stroke: 165,393, Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 147,382, Alzheimer’s disease: 120,122, Diabetes: 101,209, Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and nephrosis: 57,937, Chronic liver disease and cirrhosis: 54,803. So this clown doesnt give a toss about the millions of American who died by all these other means. Pretty shallow! Despite the change to Roe V Wade, Abortion Numbers Are at Their Highest in More Than a Decade. There were 1,026,700 abortions in the US. So deaths by abortions were over 26 times higher than by gun. So whats the difference between someone being shot by a gun or killed at an abortion clinic? Why are the lives of 40,167 victims of gun violence more valuable than the lives of 1,026,700 abortion victims?

When I see Red, White, and Blue, I think about this map of gun deaths per capita by county.
This isn't how the 2nd Continental Congress thought America would turn out when they declared independence from a monarch.
Americans today fear each other. In the South and Midwest, an American is 20-50x more likely to be killed with a gun than someone living in New England where the Mayflower first landed in 1620. An obsession with individual rights has eroded the foundation of what it meant to be a citizen of the United States.
"Whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness."
Reap as you sow
Violence, particularly political violence, is not acceptable in a modern democracy. The assassination bid on Trump has to be condemned in no uncertain terms.
Bible says ‘you reap whatever you sow’. Trump unable to digest his defeat, incited the Jan 6, 2021 insurrection. He is doubling down and has been promising violence if he loses 2024 elections.
Trump and Republicans have taken the constitutional guarantee to bear arms to the extreme. According to a study there are 120 guns per 100 Americans. Republicans have been pushing for laxer gun laws despite series of school shootings and other violent gun crime.
Hope this incident serves as a wakeup call to Trump and Republicans. Or does their harebrained logic pushes them to clamour for further relaxation of gun laws.
The real worrying question is ‘will sympathy factor help Trump to get into the Whitehouse for the second time?’. It may not. The US is so completely polarized along ideological and cultural lines that it appears as though two realities exist. God save America.

Hmmm... Criminals don't follow laws. 2A rights protect all of us. Could you imagine if you needed a permit to free speech or not to incriminate yourself? What if those rights were onlybvalid in your home state and lost once you crossed state lines. Rights don't work that way. What if school desegregation wasn't enforced after the Supreme Court decision and still prevented black children from attending school? Would it be ok for states, like NY or CA, who carve out "sensitive" areas as they do for bearing arms, to create non-integratiin school districts? Think about it. A right is a right. It's that simple.
