This week marked the end of my second year teaching in Erie's Public Schools' Student Acceleration through Instruction & Learning (S.A.I.L.) program! S.A.I.L. is a summer enrichment program where students can practice academic skills across multiple content areas. Once again, I taught sixth grade English Language Arts alongside a veteran educator at East Middle School. The summer brought many new opportunities for me, like tailoring my curriculum to the large group of English Language Learners (ELLs) at East. I learned just as much from these students as they did from me! Collaborating with the other student teachers was also a highlight, as we worked on lesson plans and creative classroom activities. We gained so many insights that we could only learn on the job. Stepping out of my comfort zone is always rewarding. I'm excited to build on these skills as I enter my final year before graduation!
The Erie's Public Schools team will miss Dr. Whiteman. Her contributions were invaluable and profoundly impacted many in the community!
Possessing a passion for your job often leads to a meaningful career, and Janice Whiteman, M.Ed., certainly exemplifies this correlation. Whiteman has been a part of the Gannon Family for over 22 years. At the end of June, she will retire, ending her own illustrious career that began almost 60 years ago and set multiple teachers up for tremendous success through Gannon’s School of Education, making her a truly Notable Knight. https://lnkd.in/eyKhTSAk
