Dr. Sohaib Hashmi recently contributed to a Becker's Healthcare Spine Review article that examined what’s next in outpatient spine procedures. Outpatient surgery is beneficial for patients because, among other things, it enables at-home recovery. But moving procedures into ambulatory centers takes time. “Prone transpsoas (PTP) lateral interbody fusion is most likely to have a larger footprint in ambulatory surgery centers (ASC). Single-level PTP procedures are currently performed in ASC settings, however, there are several factors why there will be an even greater shift of PTP to the outpatient setting," says Hashmi. "PTP will prove to be a safe and effective surgical option for patients at ASCs, offering the benefits of a minimally invasive approach, shorter recovery time and reduced healthcare costs compared to traditional hospital-based procedures.” https://lnkd.in/ga_6RjcV
