The proportion of preventive primary care visits compared to problem-based visits nearly doubled between 2001 and 2019, according to a new analysis by Lisa S. Rotenstein of University of California, San Francisco and Brigham and Women's Hospital and coauthors. The authors analyzed US primary care visits from the 2001–19 National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey. According to the data, primary care visits with a preventive focus involved more time spent with the physician and addressed fewer reasons for the visit compared with problem-based visits. “At least one of the following was significantly more likely to occur during a preventive visit than a problem-based visit: counseling provision, ordering of preventive labs, or ordering of a preventive image or procedure,” the study authors reported. https://bit.ly/3sJYsBO Additional authors include: John N. Mafi of the UCLA and RAND Corporation, Bruce E. Landon of Harvard University and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. #PrimaryCare #Medicare #PreventativeCare

Understanding how patients see and experience care is fundamental to quality, person-centred care and can help us think about how we shift practices, services and systems. Interesting blog from Dr Claudia Virdun RN, PhD. Thanks RePaDD for sharing!
Meet our Member: Dr Claudia Virdun RN, PhD, Senior Lecturer Palliative and End-of-Life Care, Flinders University In this blog, Claudia shares her research, what she’s working on and a little about her life outside of research, including why her research area piqued her interest. "I saw excellent care experiences, but I also saw care experiences that were fragmented and that did not enable patients and families the best care that we know is possible. This concerned me and I wanted to better understand why inpatient palliative care was so variable." Read the full blog here >> https://lnkd.in/gdXgd-aV #palliativecare #endoflifecare #meetourmember
