PROJECTS IN ACTION - Mississippi State MVP The iconic Mississippi State basketball arena, affectionately known as “The Hump”, recently completed a comprehensive renovation that included the installation of a new floor by Covington. Humphrey Coliseum located near Starkville, Mississippi has been the home of Mississippi State basketball for over four decades. The renovation project, which spanned over two phases, encompassed a wide range of improvements, both inside and outside the arena. Phase one focused on enhancing the exterior of the arena, including new entrances, updated signage, and improved accessibility features. Phase two, finalized in 2023, centered on transforming the arena’s interior, including the installation of the new floor, and state-of-the-art lighting systems. The new Robbins MVP system installed by Covington, represents a significant leap forward in athletic surface design. Robbin’s most innovative design focuses on optimizing bio-mechanical interaction between the athlete and floor by minimizing vibration and maximizing uniformity. Excellent energy return improves performance, comfort, and safety while Vibration damping reduces muscle fatigue and lessens risk of athlete injury. The renovation of Humphrey Coliseum signifies a major turning point for Mississippi State University and its athletic programs. The revitalized arena now stands as a world-class facility, poised to provide a premier environment for the university’s athletes and fans to experience the thrill of basketball for generations to come. If you’re wondering why your sports hall is a loud, echoing and unaesthetically pleasing place, then this may be for you: 3 Reasons to Install Acoustic Walling Within your Sports Hall Indoor sports halls and gymnasiums being large open spaces are often built with hard, non-absorbent surfaces. Acoustics within sports halls are generally poor, therefore it is important that acoustic reduction is considered when designing or upgrading your sports hall. The best way to ensure this is by installing high-quality, durable, and sound-absorbent wall panels! DYNAMIK sports wall panels are the perfect solution. Whilst being designed to reduce noise reverberations they are highly attractive, have been specifically certified for sports and have low maintenance costs as they are high scratch and impact resistant. Acoustics The sensory environment of a sports hall can sometimes be overwhelming, especially for individuals sensitive to noise and visual stimuli. The DYNAMIK acoustic wall panels can help absorb sound, reduce echoes and create a calmer atmosphere. By minimising auditory distractions and enhancing visual appeal with our range of colours and wood effects the DYNAMIK wall panels can contribute to a less overstimulated environment beneficial for sports and non-sporting events fostering inclusivity and comfort for all users. Durability With the popularity of indoor sporting activities on the rise, indoor sport halls are very busy, spaces that need to deal with the day-to-day rigours of multi-sport activity, and general wear and tear challenges. DYNAMIK sports wall panels provide much needed protection against player and ball impact. They are also factory finished so do not require re-finishing over the life of the product proving to be a low maintenance option. Appearance DYNAMIK’s sports wall panels are available in a range of colours and wood effects which provide a modern appearance, improving the design whilst achieving the required Light Reflectance Values (LRVs). Sports halls finished in DYNAMIK acoustic and solid wall panels create an environment suitable for both sporting and non-sporting events and help transform the space away from a sports-focused arena into a welcoming space for all. If you have a New Build or Refurbishment sport hall project coming up then please get in contact to see how DYNAMIK can help you create a state of the art facility for the benefit of all users. Cox Architecture chosen to design new Tasmania Stadium COX, a leading Australian architectural firm, has been chosen as the Lead Design Consultant for the Macquarie Point Development Corporation (MPDC)'s Multipurpose Stadium in Tasmania. The new stadium in Hobart would be home to the Tasmania Football Club of the AFL - Australian Football League. COX has designed sports venues including Optus Stadium, Sydney Football Stadium, Dunedin Stadium and the redesign of the Adelaide Oval. Alastair Richardson, Director at Cox Architecture, told ABC News that while it was incredibly early days, they had some ideas, but were “wary” of earlier artistic renders. He said: "They give some clues of what we don’t want to do. This building needs to be scaled, transparent, open, something that actually has an engagement with the city and not a concrete wall, sort of blocking off its access. One of the key things we want to do is to really make sure that this engages with the streetscape, that this engages with people walking around, and obviously is respectful to the Cenotaph in terms of how it sits just below the escarpment. Can we sink it slightly? What does that look like? How do we maintain the envelope such that the height is there in relation to cricket and football for example? But is as low as possible in terms of the perimeter." Richardson also said he was confident the stadium could be built within the A$715 million budget set for the project. ** James Avery, CEO, Stadiums Tasmania, will be speaking at the second Australian edition of the SVB LIVE Global Networking Events series, being held at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia, on June 25, 2024. ** MPDC CEO, Anne Beach, said the appointment of COX followed a competitive market testing process. She said: "The COX team brings extensive expertise in designing stadia across Australia and internationally, including Adelaide Oval, Optus Stadium in Perth, and Allianz Stadium in Sydney. "The team includes local Tasmanian architectural firm Cumulus Studio, and specialist engineers and technicians, including AECOM, local experts COVA, Aldanmark Pty Ltd, and pitt&sherry, as well as international partner schlaich bergermann partner sbp, who brings experience in world-leading designs such as SoFi Stadium in California.
