The Graduate Outcomes Survey is the biggest annual social survey in the UK and captures the perspectives and status of graduates. 🎓 The latest version reports on the 2021-22 leavers and was recently released. The RAU has done well and we're particularly proud that 93% of our graduates with a known disability were in employment and/or further compared to the national figure of 66%. 📈 Thank you to our Careers and Employability team, as well as our alumni, for supporting our students. 🎉 Further data can be found here: https://bit.ly/3LikcKI #GrowYourFuture #OurRAU

Our knowledgeable and dedicated work experience team at New College Swindon is on hand to help students find placements and acquire those critical employability skills such as collaboration, resilience and time management. Working closely with employers enables us to scope out those key employability skills and ensure we are always meeting the needs of the local workforce. Get in touch with the team at employability@newcollege.ac.uk 🔔YEUK’s Youth Voice Census 2023 established that a lack of work experience is the biggest barrier faced by young people not in work, yet 2/3 of children leave school with no work experience. 🔔Currently, most are navigating the journey to the world of work, unsure about the skills valued by employers and the route to gaining those skills. 🔔Students who complete work experience on average will raise their future earnings by over £1088 per year and attending work experience reduces the chance of becoming NEET (not in education, employment or training) from 11% to 7%. #employabilityskills #skillsdevelopment #workexperience #STEMswindon #placements Tracy Faulkner Valerie Olds Maria Holohan Jacki Wilby Emma Wykeham-Martin

Today, Graeme Smith, Patrick Watt and I had the incredible opportunity to present insights from our recent research study at the DMH Associates webinar. The study, conducted by our team at Skills Development Scotland delves into what drives the career ambitions of young people. 💡 Some key takeaways: A lack of confidence is a barrier preventing young people from making progress in their chosen career. This is a particular issue for disabled and care experienced young people. Young people from the most deprived areas have more complex post-school transitions than those from the least deprived areas. The people most likely to influence young people’s career decisions are Parents and Carers. Find the report here: https://lnkd.in/eFV4hWH3 A massive thank you to Associate Professor Deirdre Hughes OBE for providing the opportunity to share our findings with such a diverse audience. It's a privilege to contribute to the conversation about shaping the future workforce. Any thoughts on these findings? Share your insights below! 🚀 #CareerAmbitions #Youngpeople#ResearchInsights #WebinarPresentation#CareerJourneys#CIAG

It is great to see an increasing number of schools reporting they fully achieved the Experiences of Workplaces and Encounters with Employers and Employees Benchmarks, as highlighted in the latest The Careers & Enterprise Company briefing. More details here: https://lnkd.in/eBEdAcg7 The briefing shows that 64% of the schools who reported on their careers provision fully achieved the Experiences of Workplaces benchmark (GB6). However, it remains concerning that many young people still say they struggle to access valuable work experience opportunities. The findings of the Education Select Committee Inquiry on CEIAG and the Youth Census 2023 substantiate this. The question remains about the impact of the current provision on young people's access to opportunity and outcomes. We view the Benchmarks not merely as a checkbox exercise but as a commitment to fostering high-quality CEIAG. We welcome the findings of the Career Impact System evaluation launched today by the Careers and Enterprise Company, highlighting the ambition to ensure quality standards nationally. It's great to see progress against Gatsby benchmarks, but if it doesn't positively impact young people's future and fair access to opportunities, it is simply not enough. Read their findings here 🔽

Our recent student survey reveals that less than half of young people feel confident in their ability to navigate and succeed in the workplace. This alarming statistic highlights a profound disconnect between the school curriculum and the demands of the modern job market. Through our work experience programme, we've seen firsthand the transformative impact of employers and educators working together to help equip young people for the challenges of tomorrow's world of work. The Labour Party's commitment to recruit 1,000 new career advisers in schools is a promising step towards closing this gap by providing much-needed capacity to deepen educator and employer links. But we need to go further by reshaping our present education system to foster a generation of confident, skilled, and adaptable young professionals and pave a pathway to lifelong professional success for everyone. #workexperienceforall #socialmobility #policy #workexperience #careerseducation
