Do you know what’s in your salad 🥗? Of the 26,000 biomolecules found in the plants we eat, most are still unidentified, and their health effects generally unknown. Understanding these biomolecules is the goal of The Periodic Table of Food Initiative (PTFI) and it becomes even more important as climate change reduces available nutrients in some crops. Exploring the Role of the Phytobiome in Human Health In recent years, groundbreaking research has unveiled a captivating and intricate relationship known as the phytobiome. This emerging field of study has revolutionized our understanding of how plants, their associated microorganisms, the soil, and the environment collectively impact human and animal well-being via their respective gastrointestinal microbiomes1. 🌱 What Is the Phytobiome? The phytobiome encompasses the diverse assemblage of microorganisms inhabiting the soil, plants, and their surroundings. These tiny inhabitants play vital roles in plant growth, nutrient acquisition, composition, and stress tolerance. But here’s the fascinating twist: their influence extends far beyond the green realm. The phytobiome significantly impacts human health by shaping the food we consume and influencing our overall well-being. 📚 References: https://lnkd.in/g4ztxJ62

Landmark Research by Dr. Shakir Ali Unveils Potential #Health Risks from Rice Consumption! A significant breakthrough in understanding the potential health implications of consuming rice comes courtesy of a #research team led by Dr. Shakir Ali, a Research Associate at CAWTM, MRIIRS. Published in the renowned Quartile-1 journal - Biological Trace Element Research - Springer, his research sheds light on fluoride content in rice, a staple food for nearly half the world's population. Delving Deep into #GlobalRice and Fluoride: Dr. Ali's work employs a comprehensive systematic review, analyzing fluoride levels in raw rice across various countries. This global perspective shines a light on potential health risks for millions who rely on rice as their primary source of sustenance. The Centre for Advanced Water Technology & Management (CAWTM), MRIIRS, spearheads translational research that directly impacts the population at large. Through cutting-edge facilities and interdisciplinary collaboration, CAWTM remains at the forefront of #scientific #innovation, bridging the gap between scientific discoveries and practical applications, and contributing significantly to addressing real-world challenges and improving public health outcomes. I'm excited to announce a new @The National Academies of Sciences Engineering and Medicine report, which explores the linkages between soil health and human health. The report finds that to improve soil health, federal agencies need to promote the importance of soil health, support translational research, and develop a coordinated national approach to monitor soil health over time. The report also says there is a pressing need to determine which microbial features, if any, contribute to quantifying or fortifying health in both human and soil systems and to understand the direct and indirect roles of soil, alongside other environmental factors, in influencing human microbial colonization and subsequent health outcomes. New publication from the #ICC_WaterHealth, 1st-authored by our PhD students Iris Schachner-Gröhs & Michael Koller out in #WaterResearch (IWA Publishing): Linking #antibioticresistance gene patterns with advanced #faecalpollution assessment and environmental key parameters along 2300 km of the Danube #River. https://lnkd.in/dfme3aRt Highlights: • First systematic study on antibiotic resistance markers in the whole Danube River. • New holistic approach linking ARGs with advanced faecal pollution diagnostics. • Human faecal pollution as dominant factor for observed resistance patterns. • Hotspots identified in middle and lower river sections and in specific tributaries. • intI1 and sul1 detected ubiquitously, ESBL and carbapenemase genes at hotspots. Congrats to everyone involved! #AMR #OneHealth #water
I am extremely happy to share our freshly published paper on AMR in the Danube River, which contains key findings from my PhD project! 🔎 💧😍💧 🔍 Thanks to all the Co-Authors! https://lnkd.in/d3uXbiAx
