Today is International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT). This year's theme is, "No One Left Behind: Equality, Freedom and Justice for All." IDAHOBIT is a global initiative that works to raise awareness about discrimination, violence, and challenges faced by the LGBTQIA+ community. Check out the may17.org website (https://buff.ly/4dfNtT3). An inclusive approach was taken to determine this year's theme. LGBTIQ organizations around the world were a part of the discussion, and this year's theme, allows for advocacy and celebrations in many forms – be it from human rights defenders, LGBTIQ civil society groups, millions of people in our communities, and our allies. #IDAHOBIT #inclusion

⚠️Anti-rights movements are on the rise and trying to reverse progress. They put the rights and lives of #LGBTIQ+ people at risk by: ❌Using hateful propaganda and disinformation to target LGBTIQ+ people. ❌Falsely portraying the rights of LGBTIQ+ people as competing with women’s rights. 🏳🌈 We must act collectively to protect and support LGBTIQ+ equality and rights. Learn how in this explainer: https://lnkd.in/gPMHTSeX

While I am still soaked in the endorphin of completing all my IGCSE exams, I'd like to discuss an important issue in our community. Specifically, the minority stress faced by #LGBTQIA+ individuals in their daily lives. Some of my peers have bravely shared both positive and challenging experiences of identifying as part of the LGBTQIA+ community or being an ally. It's crucial to recognize that as a #minoritygroup, they often face #discrimination, #prejudice and other #stressors - as evidenced by considerable scientific research like the #MinorityStressModel and Multiple Minority Stress and LGBT Community Resilience among Sexual Minority Men (McConnell, Janulis, Phillips, Truong, & Birkett, 2018). While acceptance and support are growing significantly, there is still work to be done in creating truly safe and nurturing environments. As it is #PrideMonth, I wanted to share two useful resources for supporting the mental well-being of Hong Kong's LGBTQIA+ population: - This community directory from Mind HK lists local services and resources available: https://lnkd.in/d9j3ZeUd - A video I created for my former secondary school two years ago introduces the concept of active listening - a critical tool for providing non-judgmental support so others feel heard during difficult times. https://lnkd.in/dDTqQuyn As allies, continuing to educate ourselves and offer compassionate support are small but important ways to make progress on this important issue. No One Left Behind: Building an Inclusive Future for the LGBTQI+ Community!!! Every year, the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing struggle for LGBTQI+ rights. This year's theme, "No One Left Behind," emphasises the critical need for a world that celebrates diversity and guarantees equality, freedom, and justice for all. While recent years have seen progress towards LGBTQI+ inclusion, significant challenges remain. The LGBTQI+ community continues to face marginalisation and social exclusion. We, at YNCSD, are dedicated to fostering an inclusive future where these challenges are overcome. Read full blogpost here>>> https://lnkd.in/dJgJNR5u #IDAHOBIT2024

🚫 Urgent Call to Congress 🚫 As Congress discusses FAA reauthorization, it's vital to address the controversial Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) separately. KOSA, if attached, risks censorship and harm to LGBTQ and minority communities. We can't rush through such impactful legislation. Let's ensure a thoughtful debate on online safety without sidelining vital discussions. #KOSA #OnlineSafety #CongressDebate
