Twenty years ago, the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage was adopted by UNESCO. For the last two decades, the Convention has helped guide policy and actions for understanding, documenting, and protecting Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) around the globe. Pakistan ratified the Convention in 2005.   ICH does not only represent inherited traditions from the past, but also contemporary rural and urban practices in which diverse cultural groups take part. These practices form a part of our living heritage, when recognized as such by the communities that create, maintain, and transmit it.
