Kristy Townsen, PhD, is leading critical research studies that elevate our understanding of why some disease and conditions, like idiopathic intracranial hypertension, affect women differently than men.

Health disparities are driven by many factors — access to high-quality health care and education; neighborhood, social and community culture; and economic stability — and these factors do have consequences on eye health. For instance, many eye conditions that cause blindness are more prevalent among certain populations, and addressing these inequities has long been a motivation for Dr. Sayoko Moroi.
