Longtime data protection and privacy professional; recent graduate of the University of Washington's Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies
This is worth a read. My experience is that many small and midsized organizations don’t fully appreciate the concept of the laws reaching beyond the border in which they were passed. It’s true for #privacy and also for #AI. Here’s an example from the article: “Both laws [the #EUAIAct and the recently passed Colorado law] have extraterritorial effects. Colorado’s, adopted by the governor on May 17 applies to developers and deployers of high-risk AI systems doing business in Colorado. This could be interpreted to cover out-of-state businesses providing AI products or services to consumers in Colorado. The EU law, approved by the EU counsel on May 21, applies to developers, deployers, importers, distributors, and manufacturers of AI systems within the EU, as well as organizations outside the EU if they place AI products on the market in the EU, or if the outputs of their AI products are used by individuals within the EU.”
Bloomberg Law just published my latest blog article, which offers actionable insights for companies to comply with the EU AI Act and the Colorado AI Act, the first groundbreaking AI regulations from both the EU and the US, which have an impact beyond their borders. This article will hopefully also serve as a blueprint for legislators worldwide shaping future AI legislation. Here's the article: https://lnkd.in/e-sU5zWt
