📣 As part of the EU's strategy to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, the EU Hydrogen Bank just announced a €1.2B investment to help boost the renewable hydrogen economy. But whether or not hydrogen will actually deliver climate benefits depends on the detail. Given what we know about hydrogen emissions science, we took the opportunity of the European Commission's Hydrogen Bank consultation to provide our feedback on the auction’s Terms & Conditions (T&Cs), which should be designed to take into account and minimise the risk of hydrogen emissions and their climate implications in order to maximise hydrogen’s value to the climate. Our recommendations emphasise the need to: 🌱 Remain focussed on the cleanest form of hydrogen 💶 Channel investments strategically to the right use cases 🔢 Ensure solid foundations with accurate emission calculations 🏆 Reward projects with higher environmental standards By putting robust and up-to-date science at the heart of hydrogen policy, we can maximise the climate benefits of this promising decarbonisation solution. 📃 Read more in our latest blog post ➡ https://lnkd.in/d-BfkCK3 #ClimateAction #HydrogenEconomy #EU

Akey step to achieving #climate neutrality in the European Union is to rapidly shift from fossil fuels to electric technologies powered by renewable #energies, a new study shows. At the same time, #hydrogen produced from electricity will also be indispensable in hard-to-electrify sectors such as aviation, shipping and chemicals. By 2050, electrification and hydrogen are the key strategies to reach climate neutrality based on renewable power. Transitioning to clean energy is critical to addressing climate change, and green hydrogen is part of the solution. Learn the case of Chile and its renewable energy potential with Marcela Silva, Regional Director of Infrastructure in the Latin America Region and the Caribbean at the World Bank.

We need to decarbonise fast. Getting clean hydrogen to hard-to-decarbonise sectors fast will help. Today, the Green Hydrogen Catapult (GHC) took a stand for climate-aligned US policy.  GHC Members wrote a joint letter to express strong support for climate-aligned implementation of the 45V clean hydrogen production tax credit, calling for US hydrogen defined as “clean” to be produced through processes that are consistent with the rules adopted earlier this year by the European Commission.   To position the US as a leader in the race to develop clean hydrogen markets, we need to set stricter, climate aligned rules for defining green hydrogen, helping keep the world on track with net zero goals.
