The Origins of Bar Hopping Ever wondered how the popular social activity of bar hopping came to be? Let's dive into the history and evolution of this vibrant tradition! 1. Ancient Roots: Bar hopping, or moving from one drinking establishment to another in a single night, traces back to ancient times. In Ancient Greece and Rome, people would visit various taverns, sharing drinks and engaging in lively discussions. 2. Medieval Taverns: During the Middle Ages, taverns and inns served as social hubs. Travelers and locals alike would visit multiple establishments to sample different ales, wines, and regional specialties. 3. The Birth of the Pub Crawl: The term "pub crawl" emerged in the 19th century in England, where groups of friends would tour various public houses, enjoying a pint at each stop. This practice gained popularity as a social and recreational activity. 4. Prohibition Era: In the 1920s, the United States experienced Prohibition, leading to the rise of speakeasies—secret bars where people would gather to drink illegally. The thrill of moving from one hidden bar to another added an adventurous twist to bar hopping. 5. Modern Day: Today, bar hopping is a beloved activity worldwide, often organized around themes like craft beer tours, wine tastings, and holiday celebrations. It’s a way to explore diverse venues, enjoy unique drinks, and connect with friends. Tips for a Successful Bar Hopping Experience: Plan your route in advance. Stay hydrated and pace yourself. Try local specialties and new drinks. Ensure safe transportation between locations. COFFEE IN ROME Post 3 of 7 by Giselle Ramsay Rome vs Sydney a consumer’s perspective From personal experience, when it comes to having a coffee in Rome, the culture seems quite different when compared to Sydney’s Cafe scene. In Sydney we tend to “catch up” over coffee. This usually implies having a seat, placing your order, and chatting away while the coffee is delivered to your table. This experience might range from a 15-minute work meeting to a leisurely hour or more, depending on how much there is to catch up on! Whereas in Rome, in many cafes, ordering at the register takes place first. Here, you choose whether you would like table service or counter service and a receipt may be provided. For counter service you hand the receipt to the barista, and they serve you on the spot at the bar. For table service as expected, coffee is delivered to your table. My experience of drinking coffee at the bar was no more than 8-10 minutes in total including ordering. Highlights of Rome coffee culture: ☕ fast service especially at the counter ☕ counter service was cheaper than table service ☕ a significant aspect of counter service was the feeling of inclusivity. Chatting to the barista and the person beside you eliminates the awkwardness of having a coffee alone. #roma #coffeetime #caffeine #coffeeculture #ACUculinarynutrition #ACUnutriton #ACUstudyabroad #ACURomefoodcultureandcommunityengagement

A new chapter is about to unfold
On May 5th we’re inviting our community, and our friends in the hospitality sector, to a unique opening ceremony. As the Summer approaches, and an eventful year for Scorpios begins with our expansion in Bodrum, we thought we’d arrange a special gathering in Mykonos. Attendees will be invited to rediscover flavor through Ioannis’ dishes, which utilizes the tool of fire and advanced culinary techniques for a menu that emblematically reflects traditional Greek cuisine. With music from Valeron & Band, plus DJ sets from Valeron, Jean Claude-Ades and more, this event will be a moment for us to come together and celebrate before the start of the full season. Reservations now open. https://lnkd.in/dyXHh-Mr
