#stateopeningofParliament in the UK today! This year, the anual ceremony will be certainly different to the previous years! It is the first time in a long time, when the opening of the Parliament, will be performed by the King, through the #KingSpeech! HM Charles III There is no doubt about it, it is a ceremony that was, is and will be, a trademark of the UK, the monarchy and the #Parliament! The regalia, the traditions, the solemnity of the ceremonia, the king's speech and the opportunity of the Parliament to seize the moment through the priorities set in the king's speech, it is an example of the unicity of the UK #constitution and the distinction of power, giving an insight of where the power lies and the connections between the two Chambers and Monarch. Is there still a place for traditions, or better said, for keeping all of the traditions within the ceremonies, that perhaps are not relevant to the times we live in now? Are such ceremonies, or the costs associated with them, still considered necessary especially when there are concerns related to the costs of living? The opinions will be split I'm sure, but one can argue that no matter what your personal views are, or what side you are on, these ceremonies are indeed unique and extraordinarily to witness or observ!

It is good to hear a Conservative peer talking about how ‘we have got this wrong.’ It is true, ‘we’ have, it’s a shame that politics and leadership have not been listening earlier. It’s not just the over emphasis on University education as the primary route and destination of the education system but the fact that the narrative and qualifications are built for that journey. Its good that at last there is a conversation with those who need to use the system with a different end point but also listen to the professionals who have been saying this all along, that it is creating the gaps so often discussed. Read also the EPIC report on attainment gaps in FE were the conclusion includes that the curriculum is not serving the learners well, consider the crazy drive to defund non academic qualifications in school sixth forms and the lack of real development in T Level privision were many of the original structures are being changed as they are undeliverable. It’s time for a root and branch review, profession and policy led, learner and economy informed. It’s time for politics to be set aside so that we can develop a world leading education system that works for every learner and leaves no one behind. I would start with two things: 1. Get the beginning of the journey better resourced so that more learners engage and have a better grounding, and 2. A consideration of the behaviours and mindset we want at its end not just a measure of the content recall. Where would you begin?
