We were honored and thrilled to be able to sponsor and attend the Red Mass of the St Thomas More Society of Atlanta last week. Happy birthday to Chase de Vere !! Chase de Vere was originally established on 7 March 1969 – meaning that we are 55 years old today. That’s 55 years of providing Independent Financial Advice. We hope that our long-established history, together with the strength and security of our parent company, provides a high degree of confidence for all of our employees and all of our clients. Some other events which happened in 1969 include the first man walking on the moon, the Woodstock music festival, The Carpenters and Hot Chocolate were formed, Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid and The Italian Job were released, Elton John and Led Zeppelin released their first albums, the battery powered smoke detector and the laser printer were both invented and Richard Nixon was inaugurated as the 37th US President.

It's always fun when electric speakers like Kardinal Offishall inspire our students at convocation, but there's so much more to learn from him. Harrow's career is an important example of what so many of our graduates learn and do in the world after AMPD. Our grads do not stay in their lanes. Like so many successful creatives today, our grads change and evolve their careers constantly: from established companies to freelance work; from theatre to film to videogames and back again; from visual art to animation to visual effects; from indie productions to business. The lessons of a successful education in the arts and design are not only the technique and craft in a specific field, but how to evolve and transition your work over time and in response to so many changes. That's what so impressive about Harrow. He works across fields, disciplines and platforms. He demonstrates how vital it is to keep developing one's craft while also seeking new opportunities and developing an individual voice. Amid all of the challenges, we must continuously refine our programs to support learning in not only disciplinary technique, but also: - Cross-sector adaptability - Innovative problem-solving - Leadership across creative disciplines - Entrepreneurial mindset The creative leaders of tomorrow will excel in today's dynamic creative industries by mastering not just technical skills, but the ability to evolve professionally and learning to embrace and even enjoy(!) the changes and new opportunities. I think it's that sense of joy that makes Kardi such an inspiration for our School. It was exciting to have him speak to our newest alumni and I look forward to what he -- and they -- will do next. Legendary bassist Christian McBride recently hosted the equally legendary pianist Brad Mehldau on his radio show. It was smart, honest, wildly engaging conversation (if yer a jazz fan, you know that they're friends and long-term collaborators). But the best moment was when McBride nudged Mehldau not to speak but to improvise in a totally new way. He described three goofy "images," scenarios that mixed a jazz musician and a weird fictional situation, and asked Mehldau to sketch them on the piano. The clip below has Mehldau showing us his take on Pat Metheny as a member of, get this, the U.S. House of Representatives. So crazy. So cool. Now, since this ain't a LinkedIn post if one doesn't tack on a "Here's what you can learn..." I hasten to add: When someone possesses a real skill, it's fair to push them to be creative in new ways *in that area.* Too many orgs, too many managers, think that merely shoving people out of their comfort zone, as they say in the country of cliché, is the way to grow talent. ("Brad: In the next two minutes, sculpt a bust of Thelonious Monk out of this block of sandstone.") It's more valuable in my opinionation (nod at Blossom), to help people extend their mastery rather than try something they are totally unsuited to do. Don't you think? Have you ever been encouraged to deepen yer expertise at work? Or told to give up the thing you loved doing and to focus on something you really couldn't have cared less about? If so, do tell. Let us, ahem, jam. #professonaldevelopment #jazz #christianmcbride #bradmehldau #patmetheny

The quality and care of a search process says so much about an institution and its values. Thank you for the warm congratulations, ALG! What I appreciated about Aspen Leadership Group's collaboration with The Music School of Delaware in this search was: 1. As a candidate, I felt a real sense of care from everyone I encountered at The Music School and ALG. 2. I never felt pressured or cajoled or coached into being anyone else other than my authentic self. 3. While the process was surely rigorous, stepped, and thoughtful, it took care not to ask so much of me as a candidate that it became all-consuming (in previous searches I have spent dozens of hours answering multi-page questionnaires; preparing, rehearsing, and delivering extensive decks; conducting substantive qualitative and quantitative analysis; or participating in last-minute scheduled additional meetings or interviews above and beyond those agreed-to in the process). I was asked a lot and offered a lot, but never felt like I was being completely wrung out by the process.
Congratulations, Stephen Beaudoin! We know you and The Music School of Delaware will accomplish great things together. #congratulations #education #creativity #leadership #careers

Curious how we use data in our concerts? 🤓🎶 We are able to analyze which popular artists in key locations, whose electoral margins are often decided by the size of a concert venue, will increase civic impact the most. To learn more check out this video where Emily White discusses our findings via SNF Agora Institute at Johns Hopkins University, moderated by Megan Ihnen! Shoutout to everyone who helped make this project happen including Eliza O'Reilly, Jasmine Lafita, Tomoya Furutani, #EmiHakutani, & Jackson Shapiro!! 🙌

Simple yet a very powerful message.
A note to young leaders. What do Madonna, Tom Cruise and Taylor Swift all have in common? They all knew at a very early age what they wanted to dedicate their life to. Taylor Swift: “I think I first realised I wanted to be in country music and be an artist when I was 10. And I started dragging my parents to festivals, and fairs, and karaoke contests, and I did that for about a year before I came to Nashville for the first time.” This is the power that comes to you when you know who you are and you know what you want. The universe is malleable, it bends in the direction of a fierce, unclouded will. It seems to me that in the annals of literature dedicated to the study of success, the Socratic injunction to “know thyself” is all too often overlooked.
