Really enjoyed presenting this #CPD session to Greycoat Real Estate LLP with Gareth Bridgman for SAY Property Consulting . Very interactive discussion and interesting insights. #realestate #learning #rics #property #propertydevelopment #propertymanagement
Our "Breakfast & Learn" sessions give the whole Greycoat Real Estate LLP team the opportunity to hear about new projects, market updates, and changes to good practice and legislation. This week had more of a residential focus and we were really pleased to welcome SAY Property Consulting to discuss how successful placemaking can help us to ensure that we meet our goal of delivering cohesive developments and communities that we and more importantly the end users can be proud of. It was interesting to exchange our experiences on designing for efficient operation, delivering projects with efficient service charges, and the increasing role of sustainable technology. The team at SAY provided numerous examples illustrating the importance of getting this right from the outset. Lastly, the new Building Safety Act and Ground Rent Reforms are posing real challenges for residential developers in particular, and SAY provided some thoughtful insight into what is such an evolving topic. Our thanks to the team at SAY Property Consulting for making the time to see us.

The Build-to-Rent (BTR) sector in the UK saw a record £4.5 billion investment in 2023, highlighting its rapid growth and significance. As the demand for BTR grows, the introduction of the The Association for Rental Living new 'BTR Code of Practice' is set to transform the industry. As an active member of ARL we welcome the new Code of Practice and its seven guiding principles. Read our blog to discover how these principles are reshaping BTR and how our processes and principles align with these. 🔗 : https://lnkd.in/eYeMFRa5

How can you make sure that marketing and sustainability departments are aligned to prevent greenwashing? We had a fantastic time at Futurebuild yesterday! It was great to catch up with Interior Design Declares - UK and join Charlie Martin from The Anti-Greenwash Charter for their panel session on "Governance as the Keystone: Fostering Synergy Between Marketing and Sustainability to Avoid Greenwashing." Thanks to the panellists: - Syranita Harrison from Sentry Doors Ltd - @Charlie Law from Timber Development UK - Timothy Clement from Morgan Sindall Construction - Jamie Shaw from Karndean Designflooring The panel shared valuable insights on striking a balance between sustainability and marketing, the pivotal role of governance and leadership in driving sustainability forward, and how to steer clear of both greenwashing and greenhushing 🤫🍃 Our favourite quotes from the panel that resonated deeply with us was that when working in sustainability, the answer is often 'yes, but…' or 'well, it depends…,' highlighting the nuanced nature of addressing sustainability challenges. While there might not always be a clear-cut solution, engaging in discussions and collaborative efforts is key to finding the best path forward for your business. Here are our key takeaways from the session: · Greenwashing is a symptom of human behaviours, well intentioned initiatives can sometimes be overshadowed by misleading marketing practices. · Make sure you’re educating the right individuals in your business on sustainability. Everyone can champion sustainability, so make sure your employees are well-versed in what sustainability means for your business. · Provide your team with the right language to effectively communicate your sustainability efforts to external stakeholders. This builds brand credibility and gets your message out to a wider audience. · Direct your efforts towards taking action on sustainability, then you’ll naturally accumulate authentic stories to share, eliminating the need for greenwashing. · Substantiate your claims with evidence, and be careful of the grey area that exists when speaking about sustainability by being open and honest at all times. Remember, genuine commitment and actions speak louder than any marketing strategy when it comes to sustainability and making a real impact as a business 💚

🌅 This morning, I had the pleasure of attending the Property Council Australia Breakfast, where the theme was "Is the future Modern Methods of Construction?" The insights from the panelists: Brett Hocking (The APP Group), Phillip Tondl (Lipman Pty Ltd), Katharine Turner (Hassell), and Rebecca Pinkstone (Homes NSW) were truly thought-provoking. Key takeaways: 🔍 Innovation and Risk: Innovation is essential but inherently comes with risks. The challenge is to accept these risks while safeguarding against poor quality through robust regulations. 📈 Demand-Driven Innovation: Simply investing in innovation isn’t enough. It needs to be driven by market demand and supported by an evolved regulatory framework to ensure scalability and success. 🌐 Digital Scalability: For modern construction methods to be scalable, they must leverage digital technologies. Consistent, rules-based planning is crucial for achieving speed and cost benefits. 🔧 Skilled Ecosystem: Innovation requires a skilled ecosystem. Asset management in modern methods of construction (MMC) must be knowledgeable and aligned with industry advancements to ensure effective implementation. 🌆 Quality and Beauty: As Rebecca Pinkstone and Katharine Tuner emphasised, MMC should enhance quality without sacrificing beauty. These methods offer durability and can contribute positively to our urban landscapes, dispelling outdated notions of bland standardisation. Overall, it was a powerful discussion on how MMC can shape the future of construction by creating beautiful, durable, and efficient urban environments. #PropertyCouncilAustralia #MMC #InnovationInConstruction #UrbanDevelopment #SustainableBuilding #DigitalConstruction #QualityInConstruction #APP

Part of the journey and a great way to assess the impact and importance of product verified EPD's in build projects
🆕 The Future Homes Hub has launched the #WholeLifeCarbon (WLC) Conventions and a free tool to support homebuilders measure the carbon impact of their new homes. Members can download the WLC Conventions and access the Future Homes Carbon Assessment Tool here: https://lnkd.in/e54rda2A Developed with input from #homebuilders, #manufacturers and whole life carbon experts, and in line with wider industry initiatives such as the RICS professional statement, the WLC Conventions will ultimately help all homebuilders consistently measure, share and report whole life carbon assessments. Having a shared approach and developing an industry-wide baseline is a significant step towards developing a clear roadmap to reduce the whole life carbon of new homes. The Future Homes Carbon Assessment Tool covers all building elements but is simple to use and zero cost, encouraging more homebuilders to start their WLC journey.
