Today, we had a very successful #resettlement and land acquisition planning workshop at the World Bank office in Jakarta, Indonesia. It was conducted as part the Indonesia Infrastructure Finance (IIF)'s “E&S café” series and participated by about 20 E&S experts. We discussed basic principles and processes on Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) preparation, including how to design the social baseline that fully captures vulnerability, the entitlement matrix that fully restores affected assets as well as better mitigates impacts exacerbated by the vulnerability, the livelihood restoration plan that adequately mitigates residual welfare losses, and the grievance mechanism that is properly staffed, among other issues. Participants shared their own experiences, which enriched the discussion. We plan to organize similar half-day workshops on RAP preparation and other topics such as grievance mechanisms, land due diligence and livelihood restoration, in order to help strengthen the capacity of national resettlement and land acquisition experts in Indonesia.

🌱 Exciting impact update: The More Income Generated for Poor Families (MORINGA) project, generously funded by the Australian Government via the Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP), has changed thousands of lives in eastern Indonesia. MORINGA harnessed the power of inclusive market systems development to uplift 9,640 farming households. Every Australian dollar invested by ANCP in this project helped to generate $2.80 in increased income for the farming households taking part. This extraordinary return on investment speaks to the power of investing in sustainable change. The MORINGA project secured an additional $5.9 million in investment from private and public market actors in Indonesia. It reached more than double its original target of 4,000 farming households, impacting 35,667 lives. Of these, 46 percent were women and girls and around 11 percent were people with disabilities. These impressive results have been acknowledged on the BEAM Exchange, where you can find out more about the project’s approach to inclusive market systems development. Indonesian Palm Oil Company Association (GAPKI) wrote that palm oil investors in Papua are worried about the risk of criticism from NGOs, and that these activists do not offer concrete solutions to help Papuans. Only Papuans can provide concrete solutions for the benefit of their people, in accordance with the implementation of Free Prior & Informed Consent. GAPKI should ask the Papuans for concrete solutions. https://lnkd.in/gkjq4k3W #palmoil #deforestation #Papua

Indonesia’s Leading Council for Services Sectors | Promoting Growth and Greater Efficiency of Indonesia's Services Industries.
Ministry of National Development Planning/National Development Agency of Republic Indoensia (BAPPENAS) invited the ISD Council to convey views on the development of the service sector in Indonesia. On this occasion, ISD Council delivered a presentation regarding the role of the service sector in Indonesia, namely as an engine of economic growth, the main driver of job creation, an instrument for poverty alleviation, and enabler for other sectors. The share of services to GDP has increased (51.8% of GDP in 2022), while the share of agriculture and industry has decreased, according to analysis conducted by the ISD Council. In addition, the service sector accounts for 49% of total employment, while agriculture and industry absorb 31% and 21% respectively. Considering that the efficiency of the service sector is very important for the overall productivity of other sectors, there are several types of service sectors that can be utilized both for final consumption, including education and health at 92.86%, and as an intermediary input, namely finance, was 78.87%.

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) can have both positive and negative impacts on sustainability and green initiatives in Indonesia, depending on various factors such as the type of investments, regulations, and corporate practices. To maximize the positive impact of FDI on sustainability and green initiatives in Indonesia, the government and relevant authorities should consider the following strategies: 1) Clear Environmental Regulations: Strengthen and enforce environmental regulations to ensure that FDI projects adhere to high sustainability standards. 2) Incentives for Green Investments: Provide incentives, such as tax breaks or subsidies, for FDI projects that prioritize sustainability and green technologies. 3) Transparency and Accountability: Promote transparency in FDI agreements and contracts, allowing civil society and environmental organizations to monitor and hold investors accountable for their environmental commitments. 4) Community Engagement: Ensure that local communities are consulted and involved in the decision-making process for FDI projects that may impact their environment and livelihoods. 5) Capacity Building: Invest in the capacity of local regulatory agencies to effectively oversee and regulate FDI projects with environmental implications. By carefully managing FDI and aligning it with sustainability goals and green initiatives, Indonesia can harness the benefits of foreign investment while minimizing its negative environmental impact and contributing to a more sustainable future. #FDI #foreigndirectinvestment #sustainability #greeneconomy #esg #InCorpIndonesia
