We're excited to announce that Dr. Vânia de la Fuente-Núñez, Healthy Ageing Senior Advisor at The Fred Hollows Foundation, will be speaking at the upcoming IAPB Conference in Mexico. Don't miss her insightful session ‘How can eye health advance healthy ageing?’ on 27 June from 15:15 to 16:15 local time in the Changemakers Room! Seventy three per cent of avoidable vision loss occurs in people who are 50 and over. Good eye health is key for us to reap the benefits of our increased longevity. Yet, older populations remain largely invisible in eye healthcare efforts as reflected in the report Connecting Healthy Ageing and Vision, which you can read at https://lnkd.in/gyHfy2Un On April 17-18, in Manila, The Fred Hollows Foundation and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), with support from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and the Australia-ASEAN Council, brought together leading organizations dedicated to ageing and vision in Asia and the Pacific. This landmark event produced the Manila Statement, which outlines essential actions to enhance eye health for older populations. Older People are central to achieving the 2030 in Sight goals. The Manila Statement is a crucial step in advancing the global vision agenda and making healthy ageing a reality for millions. Let’s continue this important conversation and drive action together. #EyeHealth #HealthyAgeing #2030inSight #VisionForEveryone cc Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade , International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) , CBM Christian Blind Mission , International Federation on Ageing , HelpAge International

I am excited to announce the launch of the first status report on the use of behavioural and cultural insights (BCI) in Europe and Central Asia. This marks a critical juncture. It’s the first reporting to @WHO Regional Office for Europe following the resolution adopted in September 2022, which emphasized the pivotal role of behaviour and cultural context in achieving equitable health outcomes. Results show the considerable work ahead to meet the ambitious 2026 targets but I’m convinced that together we can get through these challenges and bridge gaps. Together, we can use BCI to address the health challenges and major killers of our time. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eJYe94zG.

The WHO Regional Office for Europe and Estonia's Ministry of Social Affairs today co-hosted a high-level conference marking 15 years of the Tallinn Charter. In 2008, all Member States of the WHO European Region embraced the Tallinn Charter, addressing the needs of the time and acknowledging the intricate connection between health, health systems, and economic progress. In light of the lessons learned from COVID-19, today’s event focus on building resilient and sustainable health systems. It addressed challenges like ageing populations, digitalisation, novel medicines, and climate change, emphasising the importance of rebuilding trust in health systems and transforming them to be more responsive and person-centered. Our Mental health and Wellbeing Lead & Healthcare Advisor, Matt Bolz-Johnson, spoke about the significance of precision medicine in transforming European healthcare. This approach requires a new healthcare model, investment, community trust, and international cooperation, aiming to improve patient outcomes and healthcare systems. 👉 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dXNSzXve #MentalHealth #MentalWellbeing #PrecisionMedicine #conference #covid19

Medical student at Seoul National University. Interested in building healthy cities / 서울대학교 의과대학 경제경영학회 MDWINNERS
Dear friends in Korea! I recommend the World Health City Forum which will be taking place in Songdo this coming Monday till Wednesday. (I will be there on Monday and Tuesday) https://lnkd.in/g8ZFyJTA The World Health City Forum is the first of its kind in addressing global health concerns in the post-Covid context, with an emphasis on how the physical context of a 'modern, connected city' greatly impacts the health of its people. Did you know that main determinants of health - or more specifically the contributors to premature mortality - stem not from conventional healthcare in a clinical setting but from social, behavioral, and genetic factors? (See figure below, excerpted from an NEJM Catalyst piece) It stands to reason that to ensure the health of current and future populations, the role of not only "healthcare" professionals but also policymakers, urban landscape makers, and perhaps most of all.. businesses - whose products & services can beneficially impact the behaviors of the population - are necessary. The WHCF (World Health City Forum) aims to take a step in coordinating these multiagent efforts and set a direction for those interested in making people's lives healthier. Especially of note is the scheduled drafting of the Incheon Declaration - somewhat of a successor to, and hopefully an updated and bettered version of, the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion. Registration is available via the official website. Let me know if you will be there, we will catch up!

🌍 Reflections from Ottawa, Canada Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to immerse myself in the world of global health at the Canadian Global Health Conference. It was a gathering of brilliant minds and passionate individuals, including scholars, and practitioners, dedicated to making a difference in global health. The conference was a deep dive into diverse perspectives, ranging from theory to tangible actions in the space of Global Health. While some presentations leaned more towards rhetoric, buzzwords like equity, co-creation, and community-based participatory research stood out. One unique aspect of the conference was its commitment to fostering dialogue. Rather than showcasing picture-perfect, flawless research stories, there was space for genuine conversation and exploration. A remark from the closing conversation that stayed with me was: "What gets measured depends on who's measuring it." This thought-provoking statement was a testimony and reminder to examine our own privileges, biases, and value-system which we carry with us and which derive our actions. Its time to question who benefits, who holds the power, where the work is done, how funding is distributed, and how credit is allocated. I'm excited to continue this journey with thoughtful reflection on my biases to play my part towards finding innovative solutions to existing and emerging global health challenges. Thank you to all the incredible individuals who shared their knowledge and experiences at this conference. Let's keep the conversation and action going! #GlobalHealth #Reflections #LeaveNooneBehind #Equity #CCGH2023

🔈 Excited to share a landmark achievement from the heart of Sydney, Australia! 🇦🇺 The FDI General Assembly has officially adopted the revised policy statement on 'Social and Commercial Determinants of Oral Health' which I had the privilege to revise in collaboration with the FDI-Public Health Committee. 🌐 Why is this BIG news? 🌐 For the FIRST time ever, the policy statement emphasizes the role of commercial determinants of health in shaping oral health outcomes. It’s a ground-breaking move that recognizes the undeniable influence of corporate strategies, especially from sectors like the sugar industry, on the health of our global community. ✅ What Does This Mean? ✅ A broader understanding of the environment and societal risk factors leading to oral diseases. Recognizing corporate strategies that might be increasing the burden of NCDs and backing interventions to counteract this. A unified front in addressing oral health, not just as an isolated topic, but intertwined with general health and influenced by commercial actions. 🌉 Bridging the Past with the Present 🌉 From its adoption in Istanbul, Türkiye in 2013, to its revision in Sydney in 2023, this policy has come a long way in addressing the wider challenges affecting the oral disease burden. 🙏 A Collective Effort 🙏 This wouldn't have been possible without the combined efforts of NDAs, researchers, policymakers, and the staff of the FDI World Dental Federation. 🔍 Dive into the details of this policy statement : https://lnkd.in/etSTqNF8 #FDI #OralHealth #CommercialDeterminants #PolicyAdoption #GlobalHealth

It’s been 2 weeks since the success of #ECTMIH2023, the European Congress on Global Health held at Utrecht, the Netherlands. ECTMIH 2023 aimed to accelerate the understanding, appreciation, and connections between tropical medicine, global health, and the urgent field of planetary health; to emphasize the importance of health equity and universal health coverage to ensure that all populations – and especially those in low(er) resource settings – have optimal chances of health and wellbeing. I was so honoured to have my e-poster presented at ECTMIH this year. The conference this year attracted more than thousand of abstract submissions to be underwent the review process before officially launching a productive 4-day programme. We as delegates had wonderful experience at Utrechth and brought back home meaningful messages. My poster once again highlighted the emergence of postpartum depression in a developing country as Vietnam, especially among the mountainous areas. I had interesting discussions with other delegates sharing similar background and context about PPD in their countries, which ended up an agreement to have larger scale study in the future to pay more attention to postpartum care. Thanks to VinUniversity and the research team who has done a very great job for this project. Also hat off to the organiser team of ECTMIH 2023, Global Health UMC Utrecht UMC Utrecht Federation of European Societies for Tropical Medicine and International Health (FESTMIH) NVTG Dutch Society for Tropical Medicine & Global Health for such a successful event and valuable networking opportunities. #postpartumdepression #PPD #maternalhealthcare #communityhealth #planetaryhealth #Utrecht #theNetherlands
