#IJF24 Highlights – It's About Political Economy I needed some time to return home and cook a few Umbria-inspired dinners in my socialist block to finally settle my thoughts on this year's edition. Obviously, I didn't attend all the panels; I mostly focused on war, exile, and media funding. So, this is my highly imperfect and highly subjective #PerugiaWithLove. PROGRAM - While Ukraine and AI were prominent in the last edition, this year it seemed that war and AI became an all-encompassing gloomy horizon. No escape and no turning back. Exile or repression at home for those outside active war zones, too. Palestine – "This is still taboo in most European countries and many Arab countries, to have an all-Palestinian journalist panel," said Rawan Damen, moderator at the Palestinian Journalism Between Occupation, Daily Violence, and Global Censorship panel. Palestinians were rightfully shouting in the face of the world (and its human rights, media development, western media organizations, platforms). The venue was full, the audience knowledgeable and compassionate, but it still felt like all the "screams" would soon vanish into the high ceilings of the Palazzo dei Priori. The second or third, much smaller track, was more about the spectre of the capital and it did give some moderate hope. Decolonizing Media Development panel was not so much about decolonizing but about structural issues plaguing media development. "Money doesn't mean expertise" is my favourite one-liner from the panel (and the festival) by Christine Mungai, and she was delivering these condensed analyses and prophecies like barrage fire throughout the panel. Another one in the same track was about the National Fund for Journalism and included inspiring modelling of such fund in Brazil, by Ajor. It seems like media reform is on the rise, and it's global! This track reminded me of an old feminist grudge of redistribution versus recognition, and I realized that the festival would greatly benefit from at least one theoretical/feminist/political economy track. Social - I enjoyed meeting incredible humans from digital natives who are also part of the Project Oasis media directory, social media first Gen, stiri from Romania, print-first and hyperlocal Greater Govanhill from the UK, Forset from Georgia, Femmeken from Azerbaijan, Fumasa from Portugal, Faktograf from Croatia, and many others. From radical transparency to self-management principles, they keep pedalling and making sense. Side events – The Project Oasis side event was great, but I have to admit, IRPI media nailed it. Queuing - I don't mind waiting and eventually not being let in if it stays free for everyone. Next year, same place. With very naive hopes that the gloomy horizons will magically disappear. Or at least, that we will be different, on the side of radical imagination, engaging more in politics instead of mere policy.

In recent years, the proliferation of digital media globally has been one of the key drivers of deep, structural changes within the news industry, hobbling the production of fact-based news, leading to fragmentation and polarization. Such trends have been accelerated by digital systems with black-box algorithms that drive attention of a growing proportion of global audiences toward individually tailored, often emotionally charged content designed to capture attention. Authoritarian regimes such as Russia, China, and Iran have exploited trends in the information environment to accentuate their power at home and across borders. There is little evidence to suggest that the authoritarian powers will alter course in their heavy reliance on manipulation of the information environment, and therefore democracies must adapt to address the evolving challenge. This International Forum for Democratic Studies issue brief offer key principles to this end https://lnkd.in/gciYGnaJ

Octoginta Bachelorettes Finale Series Related Show 1. Message for potential Octoginta Bachellerate Finale Series members , you will never live forever, and God willing you won’t die immediately just because you joined Octoginta BFS with vision of establishing mommies’ Bank to invest in those who can’t afford World Bank, IMF, BBRICS joint Bank , and other private banks while doing research, entertain, raising kids, and so on. 2. While monophilia or polyphilia idea or do females and males love one or many at once question is contested; polygamy has never been new to humanity: for instance my dad is Lithium and my grandpa is Magnesium. Likewise in presumably monogamist society also polygamy exists: Utah Senate votes to decriminalize polygamy among consenting adults | Reuters; How One Polygamous Family Changed the Law | Counter-Narratives | The New Yorker - YouTube; Opinion | One Big, Happy Polygamous Family - The New York Times (nytimes.com); One Husband, Three Wives: A True 'Love' Story : NPR; Meet the Mormons: Inside a Fundamentalist Community | Complete Series | ENDEVR Documentary - YouTube; Over 400 children taken from Texas polygamist ranch | Reuters; My father, his 27 wives, 150 children: Teen's revelation on world's largest polygamist family goes viral (dnaindia.com); 'My dad, his 27 wives, 150 kids': Canadian teenager's TikTok on ‘World's Largest Polygamist Cult’ goes viral : The Tribune India. While senator Mitt Romney is exceptional for being Mormon and not having multiple wives, Senator John Edward and President Bill Clinton tested positive for polygamy with confirmatory test. However, I am doing research and theoretically I wouldn’t polygamist, but practically unavoidable until the research ends one way or another. 3. In fact, I have very series excuses too, the US, Ethiopian governments, and religious groups and other interest motivated parties have been using my time, talent, money, energy, research products, and so on via violations of my rights via techno-tyranny and conspiracies against rights. The governments, and others also meddled with my marriage selection and did family coup...etc. 4. Even as I want to run Octoginta Bachellerate finale series inclusively, Kids with mentality like former US president, President Barack Hussein Obama, who impolitely pick their sides, and declare that mom’s side idea has sufficient finance, and also nuclear armed and I have the code handy, it’s the best idea in the world, but dad’s side idea is bankrupt ideology worries me some because I like to be respectful to people’s faith and rights.

Truth decay is growing in Europe, driven by increasing polarisation, social media information-sharing and uncertainty. Our research shows ways to halt its growth: ◼️ Equip citizens to play their part in democracy ◼️ Ensure traditional media operates in an environment where they can remain trustworthy ◼️ Introduce measures that elevate honest political debate ◼️ Improve access to anonymised social media debate ◼️ Expand the #TruthDecay research agenda to better understand the phenomenon in Europe Read our report: https://lnkd.in/eRudzCBd

New FILTERLABS.AI newsletter is out - and it's our last one... ...because we are changing the format of our weekly newsletters in honor of summer! Filter's weekly #FilterLabsTalisman insights will be out as scheduled (so sign up newsletters.filterlabs.ai!) but the newsletter will be shorter and feature reading and TV recommendations from FILTERLABS.AI staff. This week's newsletter, however, follows a familiar format. Using #FilterLabsTalisman we analyzed the sentiment relating to the Israel-Hamas war on Chinese news and social media. Unsurprisingly, all the proverbial media roads lead to the US (and some to Mars). Interested to learn more about #FilterLabsTalisman and what it can do for you? Check out our website filterlabs.ai!

🌟 Attention all Tech and Metaverse aficionados! 🌐 I've just published my second blog post on the #Metaverse this time looking at the EU's views from a competition and competitiveness perspective! 🔍 If you are keen to hear more about how the European Commission is looking at AR/VR and XR, but also Generative AI, and much more, go check it out below! #virtualworlds #TechPolicy #EU #DigitalPolicy #artificialintelligence #Innovation #competition #competitiveness #dma
Less than a year after the publication of its Virtual Worlds strategy, the European Commission investigates the sector again - this time with a dual consultation on the state of competition in virtual worlds and in generative AI. Having previously lagged behind on many aspects of technological developments, the EU is looking to reassert its willingness to act early on innovations and boost EU competitiveness when it comes to tech. Interesting paper on news consumption, conspiracy theory and online media. Important to be aware of your news sources.
🔍 New Research Publication! 🔎 In a new #OpenAccess paper co-authored with an amazing network of international collaborators we examine the role of social media in shaping beliefs about Russian #disinformation during the Ukraine conflict! It spans *19 countries* and offers critical insights into the dynamics of media influence and conspiracy thinking. *Key Findings* - Individuals with a preexisting conspiratorial mindset are more likely to believe in Russia's justifications for the invasion, regardless of their media diet. - Traditional media consumers (TV, newspapers) are less prone to accepting disinformation compared to those relying on social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok. - While social media use does play a role, the predisposition towards conspiracy thinking is a stronger predictor of belief in false narratives.
