https://lnkd.in/gMNVJPmw The CRTC's decision mandates global streaming services to contribute to Canadian news production funds, which could significantly bolster financial resources for local news producers. This contribution of funds may enhance the quality and quantity of local news content; however, the legal challenge by MPA-Canada introduces uncertainty. If the court sides with MPA-Canada, Canadian news producers might lose this potential funding source, impacting their operations, growth, and quality of content. The outcome could also influence future regulatory frameworks and funding mechanisms for local media.
