Chicago saw the unveiling of a new EV prototype stock car, hinting at the future of NASCAR while working with the Swedish electrification partner ABB. The prototype features a three-motor setup powered by a 78-kWh liquid-cooled battery, delivering 1,000kW peak power, and uses a modified Next Gen chassis. Developed by Chevrolet, Ford, and Toyota, the car showcased impressive performance, nearly matching traditional race cars. NASCAR is going Electric? NASCAR is building an electric car! They are not going to use electric vehicles in races. However, they are trying to see how the future is changing. I like to see that they are not complacent in just Internal Combustion Engines. Jo Borras from the "electrek" news site wrote, "The electric NASCAR prototype car was reportedly subjected to more than 340 laps of half-mile oval action at a over three days at the half-mile short track." In total that is 170 miles, which in a single charge the average EV can go 250 miles in a single charge. Generic EV race cars with painted on brand names are a bad idea, just like for ICE powered racers. Competing on the track has always been about driver skill and team/manufacturer technology and engineering. One make series are never fan magnets. NASCAR needs to open up their series to ANY manufacturer of EV’s so that new upstart electric vehicle companies can showcase their products in front of American race fans. Rivian y’all?

Lucid Motors has a secret weapon that few people know about…. It’s the size of an X-Box and has the power of a BMW M3…. Imagine if you could take out the engine and transmission from a BMW M3 and replace it with a 32kg powertrain with the same HP. All this whilst improving torque, reliability and eliminating tailpipe emissions…. Lucid Motors can already do exactly that and it is already being used as the “Regen motor” in Formula-E. This was quietly announced in January 2023 but nobody was paying attention… I believe that as we look forward, the implications of the "mini motor" will be profound, signalling a new area of miniaturisation that will transform the way we engineer vehicles and how we consider space. #electriccars #lucidmotors #ev

Batteries are essential, regardless of the size of the electric driving unit (EDU). In order to ensure efficient energy utilization and regeneration, you will need a motor that is capable of balancing energy consumption. The motor should also be intelligent enough to alternate between peak power, regen, eco mode, and fail-safe characteristics. I don't see this being the case here — except a marketing scheme with very little to no innovation — unfortunately.
