All I see is positive and the will to get better, to tackle things, to embrace challenging goals and set reasonable timelines. Not all companies put that much effort into our Planet, not all companies have such aggressive goals and set this as a priority. This morning, while making breakfast, I found myself humming "Anti-Hero" 🎶. When I mentioned that Taylor Swift's new album was out, my 9-year-old immediately asked Alexa to play it 🎵. This moment highlighted a significant shift in my life—from a skeptic to a fan of Taylor Swift, a journey sparked two years ago when my daughters were introduced to her music by their teenage cousin during a family vacation. As a grown man, I never imagined enjoying pop music. Yet, the constant presence of Taylor's songs during road trips 🚗 and at home gradually changed my view. My interest deepened as I explored the business dynamics of the music industry through podcasts like 'Business Wars' 🎧. My appreciation evolved as I experienced her music in our everyday lives. This personal evolution reflects the challenges organizations face when adopting new strategies or technologies 💡. Like squeezing a boulder through an hourglass, change often involves gradual integration into daily routines rather than immediate impact. Consider Gatorade’s slow start in 1965 with the Florida Gators football team. It wasn't until the iconic coach-soaking event after the 1985 Super Bowl that it began to be seen as a sideline staple 🏈. Similarly, "Seinfeld" faced initial reluctance from NBC but eventually became one of the most beloved sitcoms 📺. These examples show that adoption unfolds over time. In business, as in music, achieving lasting acceptance requires visibility and persistence. Taylor Swift’s "Long Live" captures this battle: “I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you” 🐉. These words resonate with the behind-the-scenes struggles necessary for success. Adoption is challenging and time-consuming but leads to loyalty and appreciation 💖. Whether it's the tunes of a global artist, a new go-to-market strategy, or enterprise software, the path to acceptance demands patience. Some may call Apple's latest ad with "Mother Nature" cringe, but I think it represents the nervousness of dealing with a frequently forgotten stakeholder, the environment. Apple CEO Tim Cook's awkwardness in dealing with a diety that can change the weather is something many of us should consider, as the storms, floods, heat, and rain over the past few weeks remind us that humanity is only a temporary tenant of the planet.
