With England winning the European Football Championships in front of a packed Wembley and 20 million TV viewers and Annemiek van Vleuten reigning supreme in the first edition of the Women's Tour de France, 2022 felt like a pivotal year for women's sport.
And while the profile of women's sport has undoubtedly made progress, recent news reminds us just how far there is to go. Cycling is a big part of our business here at The Wilderness Group - UK & Ireland as is taking purposeful action on gender equality. This is the reason we have just made a 3 year commitment to support Junior Women's Cycling Team - JRC INTERFLON WJRT. We feel the timing has never been better to get behind grass roots women's cycling and create a platform for the next generation of young women to progress in the sport and become inspiring leaders and role models.
JRC is one of only 2 junior teams dedicated to women's cycling in the UK (compared to 30+ for the junior men), and we're excited to be working with them to amplify the vision and core message of equality and empowerment in women's sport. By the time they reach 18 years of age, 60% of young women no longer participate in any form of sport. This statistic really hit home for me why we really need to be doing so much more at the grass roots.
Through the story and personal journey of the JRC Team and their riders, there is a real opportunity to break down barriers, create an impact and help drive meaningful change.
If you share the same commitment to female equality, empowerment and success, we would love to help facilitate further support for the JRC Team www.equalityinsport.com. Be part of the change. #womeninsport #equality #womensempowerment #womenshealth #change #withpurpose #grassroots #cycling #sport
