What does NIL have to do with Citizen Rosebud, my presentation at the 2024 Cooperstown Symposium on Thursday May 30th between 4-5 PM at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum? Jesse Owens surpassed every expectation as an athlete and won four Gold Medals in the 1936 Berlin Olympics in Nazi, Germany. Yet when he returned to America after the Olympics, after the parades, he was long forgotten and forced to work many odd jobs. Not many know what happened next for the Buckeye Bullet, which I will cover in my presentation as the first step in the Citizen Rosebud movement. NIL is about leveraging an athlete to maximize their off-field earnings, especially when their playing careers are over. Jesse Owens tried his best to maximize his NIL long before it became a "thing". Therefore, Jesse's full story should be told and never forgotten because the themes of his story continue to be ever rampant in society today. I am excited to see the Rosebuds bloom, starting in Cooperstown next Thursday.
