There are not many people who stay with the same company for 10 years, or 20 years let alone OVER 30 but that's precisely what my guest this week did. His name is Doug Milliken and he's the former VP of Marketing Transformation at The Clorox Company Over the course of our conversation we covered a slew of topics including: 👉 Difference Makers. Doug built gis career at Clorox by studying individuals who, without formal authority, drove significant enterprise-level changes. This led to the creation of the Difference Maker program, which helps companies identify and harness this type of leadership. The stories of these people and their impactful qualities are fascinating. 👉 The irrefutable role of Culture in Digital Transformation. During his time leading Digital Transformation at Clorox, he learned it’s 80% about culture. He credits success to: Focusing on the culture of the innovation team, fostering belonging and psychological safety. 👉Scaling Culture Change. Change is personal, not organizational. Effective change happens one person at a time. How do you achieve this? 👉 And much more... Be sure to listen via the Apple or Spotify links below or anywhere you listen to podcasts! Helping Busy HR Teams Build Elite Organizations | Highlighting Innovation and DEIB in HRTech | Talent Strategy Nerd | Professional Megaphone | Researcher | Writer | Podcaster |
It's the mission, stupid! That's what keeps people engaged and going the extra mile for you and your organization. Those weren't Rob Hall 's exact words. In fact, I'm taking pretty broad creative license with what he said. BUT, the spirit of his words is accurate. "It's some greater cause. And if you can find that great cause...and everybody's willing to put their hand on it, that will motivate people to do more and create a value of your company." -Rob Hall What Rob, the SVP of HR AVITA Medical, said is absolutely dead on. You as a leader have to connect the dots for your people. Every. Single. Day. One of your primary responsibilities is to inspire your people into action. It certainly helps if your company is saving lives in the process. But even if you're not delivering life-changing solutions, an obsession with the customer problem will help your people stay in the game. This is how you build high-performance teams. What manager/leader did you work with who was great at connecting the dots? Drop them in the comments. #podcast #humanresources #employeeengagement #missiondriven #purposedriven #leadershiplessons #culture

The holiday season is associated with family, memories, traditions, and a little Christmas magic. Personally, this year has had a few ups and downs, including a life-changing experience (a positive one). While the year presented its challenges and surprises, I find solace in reflecting on the past year during the holidays. I reflect both on being a company officer and on my leadership. There have been highs and lows, unexpected moments, humorous incidents (like tripping and having mishaps in people's yards IYKYK), and everything in between. As a company officer, I often find myself reflecting after my shift, which helps me gain perspective on my leadership journey. I've learned that honest reflection is always beneficial. The "Tip of the Spear Leadership" podcast has played a significant role, allowing me to connect with leaders and firefighters worldwide who share a passion for the job. These conversations have been crucial in expanding my knowledge base. To all who've DM'd, texted, called, or emailed—thank you. I hope you all are enjoying the holidays with your families, loved ones, and those you work or volunteer with. Consider me your Workforce MD | I diagnose and treat the workforce problems that are killing your bottom line!
Excited to share insights from the latest episode of my podcast featuring the incredible Albert P. DuPont, Ed.D.! 🌟 In this episode, Albert and I dive deep into the essence of aligning with organizational vision, mission, and core values to drive better relationships and outcomes. Here are three key takeaways that can revolutionize your approach to leadership and team dynamics: 💪 Understanding Individual Strengths and Needs: Both of us emphasize the need to truly listen to employees, recognize their unique strengths, and provide support to align their goals with the organization's direction. This results in turning bottom performers into top performers by leveraging their full potential. 👏 💡 Diversity and Inclusion Really Do Matter: Creating a supportive environment where diverse voices are heard and valued is critical. Our workforces are diverse, so diversity of thought, religion, language, and community contributions not only enriches the workplace but also enhances engagement, productivity, and business outcomes. 💰 😃 🤗 🗝 Effective Communication and Relationship Building: Albert shares his journey of overcoming negative first impressions and building strong relationships by understanding the deeper motivations behind people's words. Learning to listen beyond the words, embracing extreme curiosity, and practicing empathy are pivotal in creating safe spaces for effective communication - something we all need more of to drive better business results! 🎯 🎯 🎯 Watch the full episode (link in comments) to uncover more transformative insights and strategies for fostering a thriving organizational culture. #Leadership #TeamDynamics #DiversityAndInclusion #EffectiveCommunication #LazarusLearning #Podcast #AlbertDuPont

How did your last team meeting go? Did you feel the energy and engagement from everyone, or was something just a little off? (don't worry, we've all been there!) If your team was fully engaged, kudos to you! But even the best-performing teams may face occasional dips in engagement. Couple that with pay inequity and high turnover rates, and it can feel like a recipe for stress. Despite our best efforts to encourage collaboration, it's not uncommon to encounter disengaged team members from time to time. But what's most important for you is to know what cues you should look for when leading remote teams so that you can proactively intervene and hopefully keep everyone engaged. Well, all of that is just one part of the conversation I had with Sally Loftis, MSOD (she/her/hers), a Human Resources Consultant, and Organization Strategist, for this week's episode of The Manager Track. In the second half of our conversation, we dove deeper into how to identify and share team agreements, things to be aware of in the pay equity space, and how to reframe our thoughts on pay in comparison to turnover. If this is something you're facing now or want to be better prepared for it when you inevitably have to deal with it in the future, be sure to check out this week's episode of The Manager Track Podcast.
