“The “org chart” is nothing more than a depiction of hierarchy – vertical reporting relationships that display who sits where. It tells nothing of how the organization actually works.” Quick, interesting read!

Good design requires critical thinking and a commitment of time, and so often we want shortcuts. We have to resist shortcuts in order to create healthy, sustainable, high performing organizations. Four common mistakes that I've seen throughout my career: Confusing the org chart for the organization. Bolting on resources for short-term performance gains. Moving organizational components to address leadership shortfalls. Blanket cost cutting.

Co-founder of Sidekick 🎯Business Strategy 💛 Social Impact 🦋 Transformation 👥 Organizational Design 💡Entrepreneurship
Fully aligned with Rishad Tobaccowala in this article. Especially the part around focusing on goals and outcomes rather than process and control and how this requires "a significant shift in the mindset of management where they need to be willing to trust talent and teams who are doing the work to best decide how to drive the outcomes". With 2024 just around the corner, Sidekick is ready to help leaders to drive this change. I have only one challenge and invitation to the advocates and drivers of re-imagining organizational design... can we also step away from words like 'top' and 'bottom', even bottom-up, as it continues to serve a hierarchical structure. Can we think and design organizations more horizontally? #organizationaldesign #teal #reimagine #leadership
