International Women's Day is recognized on March 8th every year to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political impact that #women worldwide have made and continue to make.⚡️ With that in mind, we asked a few female leaders 💁♀️ of our ecosystem to answer the following question: How do you believe your work is making a positive impact, especially in the context of empowering women? Check out the answers in the video below! 🎥 🌐 International Women's Day ranges from being a public holiday to completely ignored elsewhere. For some, it is a day of protest, while for others, it is a day of celebrating womanhood around the globe. However, we can't misunderstand and believe that only one day can accelerate the progress we are striving for. "March is an important month to raise awareness, but let us not stop here. Like all things, we need to work on finding solutions and bettering the ecosystem daily and not just do it once a year when it is officially time to advertise it. As March comes to a close, we also bid farewell to Women's History Month. Throughout history, women have broken barriers and achieved remarkable feats, defying societal norms and expectations. From pioneers in science, tech, medicine, to leaders in civil rights movements, women have played pivotal roles in shaping society and advancing human progress. In recent decades, significant progress has been made towards gender equality, with women breaking into traditionally male-dominated fields, attaining leadership positions, and advocating for equal rights and opportunities. As we celebrate Women's History Month, it's important to recognize the resilience, strength, and achievements of women from diverse backgrounds and cultures. By honoring their legacies and acknowledging how far we've come, we can continue working towards a more inclusive and equitable society. Today, we celebrate more than just a date on the calendar. We celebrate strength, resilience, and progress. 🌍✨ International women's day is not just a day. It's a movement. A reminder of how far we've come and the miles we still have to go for gender equality. Today, we celebrate International Women's Day, a global occasion to honor the achievements and struggles of women in all walks of life. Women have made incredible contributions to science, technology, arts, politics, and society, often overcoming discrimination and oppression. Women have also shown resilience, courage, and solidarity in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has disproportionately affected women and girls.   As a proud supporter of gender equality and women's empowerment, I want to express my gratitude and admiration for all the women in my network and beyond. As I awoke today on this International Women's Day, at first, I felt a bit sad that we actually still need this day. But then, my excitement around celebrating so many inspiring women and women in general, took over. So, I am sharing with you my hope for the near future that one day:   1.  We don’t need a separate day to celebrate women as it’s so ingrained in the culture of the world, and it becomes more evened out and a business-as-usual practice.    2.  Women are not expected to or continually asked to help for free. They are well remunerated for their support, consultancy, great advice, speaking engagements, etc.   3.  More women step up to mentor, coach and speak out and speak up for women.   4.  Advocating for DEI happens all year long.   5.  The mix of women leaders on boards and C-Suites is balanced and stable.   6.  Believing that gender equality is good for everyone becomes the status quo. As an African woman, I firmly believe in the power of inclusion and diversity. This International Women's Week, let's celebrate the strength, resilience, and brilliance of women around the world, and strive to create a more inclusive society. Women are at the forefront of countless innovations, discoveries, and societal changes. However, it is important to acknowledge that our fight for gender equality and inclusion is far from over. Inclusion isn't just about inviting people to the table; it's about making sure their voices are heard, their ideas are considered, and their work is recognized. I encourage everyone, regardless of gender, to uplift the women in their lives, not just on this day, but every day. The World Economic Forum says it will take 131 years before we achieve equality. "Gender equality is central to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations (UN) – and a perennial item on the Secretary-General's annual priority list. SDG5 calls for the world to "Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls" by 2030." This is a call to action: you can contribute every day. How? By erasing biases, by encouraging women and people from other under-represented sections of population to participate. Give them a gentle push towards a challenging project, role or invite them to speak on a panel, to get their "courage up". 🤔 Why do we need it, you ask? It makes total economic sense: there is a shortfall of investment in women's advancement at the tune of $360 billion per year (yes BILLION). We often downplay our accomplishments and underestimate our value. Today, let's recognize our strength, resilience, and the achievements we have made. Take a moment to reflect on your personal growth and the hurdles you have overcome. Celebrate your successes, no matter how big or small. Furthermore, on this International Women's Day, let's also remember the importance of intersectionality. It is crucial to recognize and uplift the achievements of women from diverse backgrounds, including women of color, LGBTQ+ women, disabled women, and those who face additional barriers due to socio-economic factors. By highlighting their stories and supporting their causes, we can create a more inclusive and equitable society. Finally, let's not limit our celebrations to just one day. While International Women's Day is a significant occasion to focus on gender equality, we must continue to advocate, support, and uplift women all year round.
