This week we are delighted to introduce you to our Swiss member of the Strategic Alliance of the National Convention Bureaux of Europe. Gruezi from Switzerland! Meet Barbra Albrecht - head of the Switzerland Convention & Incentive Bureau (SCIB). SCIB provides free assistance in organising events in #Switzerland. Their services include searching for destinations, managing hotel bookings, arranging social programs, and providing inspection visits. They also offer support for congress organisers with creating pitch documents and submitting applications. We asked Barbra about the advantages of hosting business meetings in the Swiss cities. She told us that there were three main values to touch on: 🏙 The city feels like a boutique village; it's compact enough to stroll around and offers plenty. 🏨 Switzerland pours resources into their meeting facilities, ensuring they're cutting-edge. 🚃 Plus, urban public transportation is free, or as we say in Switzerland, on the house! Switzerland isn't just about snowy mountains and fancy ski trips. The Swiss are like the wizards of watchmaking and the rockstars of banking. They whip up tasty cheese, brew up world-changing science, and when it comes to speaking their mind in politics, everyone gets a say. And hey, if you've ever travelled by Swiss train or have bitten into a bar of Swiss chocolate, you know they're doing something right! Switzerland is known as #innovation and #sustainability leaders. The point of leadership though is not to be first. It's about co-operation and support. This is why we think that cooperation within the Strategic Alliance of the National Convention Bureaux of Europe is so important to us.”

Exciting prospects await the African events industry in 2024 🌍 I was asked to share my industry predictions for 2024, in my capacity as Chairperson of AAXO - Association of African Exhibition Organisers, for the December issue of Business Events Africa and one thing I am certain of, is that the events sector is gearing up for significant growth. The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is set to amplify the importance of B2B exhibitions, fostering trade, attracting investments, and showcasing products within the continent; with a major trend being the integration of AI and technology into the exhibition landscape. With AI's global value soaring to USD 2.41 trillion in 2023 and a projected CAGR of 31.1% from 2024-2032, the events industry stands to enhance attendee experiences and streamline operations. International participation is rising, as companies worldwide recognize the immense potential of the African market. Local market development, sustainability practices, and a focus on enhancing local content across various B2B sectors are on the agenda. 2024 promises a year of growth, innovation, and increased global recognition for the African events industry. We're thrilled to share the success of our members through the results of our recent Impact Survey. The survey results highlight the fact that 57% of ABPCO members have a portfolio of events generating turnover in excess of £1 million, underscoring the substantial economic impact and leadership of ABPCO members in the association events industry. Some further highlights from the survey include 👇 ⭐️ ABPCO members have significantly contributed to the UK's growth agenda, with 85% generating turnover in excess of £500k. ⭐️ In 2023, members purchased £23.2 million in exhibition space and generated £43.2 million of sponsorships, enhancing the professionalism and reach of their events. ⭐️ The events organised touched upon critical sectors such as health sciences and med tech (34%); science, engineering and manufacturing (20%); professional services, finance and tech (17%); and government (14%). This illustrates the diverse and strategic focus of ABPCO’s members. ⭐️ ABPCO's members hosted 318 national meetings with over 500 delegates, 346 inbound international meetings, and submitted 158 international meeting bids, reinforcing the global influence and connectivity of the UK association events industry. Heather Lishman, ABPCO’s Association Director commented that: “ABPCO remains dedicated to supporting its members through training, development, and community engagement, aiming to meet the evolving needs of event professionals.
